The Stanton ATM.6 Active Monitor is developed specifically for DJs with home studios, so if you’ve got a high-end professional setup, look elsewhere for monitors. For everyone else, the ATM.6 monitors are great home studio additions. The big difference between the ATM.6 monitors and most other monitors is that they’re active, which means the little amplifiers inside the monitors are developed specifically to match the speaker driver and design of the cabinet. The better the amplifiers match the speaker driver, the closer the playback sound you’re hearing will be to the original recording.
The monitor features a 1-inch tweeter, 6-inch glass woofer, gain control, high-frequency control, and XLR/TRS/RCA inputs. With all of these features working together, you’re going to get a clean sound coming from your monitors, so you don’t have to worry too much about sound artifacts or distortion. I’ll be getting my hands on a set for a review soon, so if you’re interested in purchasing a pair, stay tuned.

Wow, it would’ve been awesome to have had a pair of these when I was in a band. We definitely could’ve used some better recording equipment, and I think these speakers would’ve been great additions to a studio. Nuts!

Any word on the price? I was out shopping for speakers as a christmas present for my brother and came across the M-Audio StudioPro3 speakers for ~$90CDN. These seem to fall in the same target, and if they can come up with something cheaper or with a better bass response I’m game

How much is the price for this thing? If anyone is looking into smaller monitors like that, also have a look at the KRK Rokit line and Yamaha MSP line (especially the MSP5)…nothing but good reviews on the Yamaha.

The price is looking at 170 to 220 (299 MSRP) on shopzilla.com, so a little bit more than your average home-oriented monitor, but great considering what you’re getting.

For those like me who have no idea what a monitor is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_monitor
“Studio monitors, also called reference monitors are loudspeakers specifically designed for audio production applications such as recording, film, television and radio studios.
Some consumer-end speakers tend to add color, tone, and loudness to make music sound better. The goal of most studio monitors is to produce a flat frequency response and a truthful representation of the source material. ”
I hope I don’t get bashed for not knowing what it was.

This would be a waste of speaker if people only bought it to listen to downloaded music… I am not an audio expert but my guess that any type of compression becomes more noticeable the better and higher the possible sound output quality is.

These units look promising…. I’ve done a bit of research and the specs of these are identical to that of the KRK RP6 Studio Monitors.
Looking closely it appears that the actual mid/bass drivers are slightly smaller on the Stantons and the rear connections are identical but on opposite sides (All connections on the Stanton are on the left of the rear panel where as the the KRK Rokit 6 has them on the right). Also it’s not a surprise that KRK Systems and Stanton Magnetics are both part of the Stanton Group.
My guess is that there are pretty much the same units just branded for two different markets.
Anyway.. I’m getting a pair of the Stantons this weekend and hope to give some more feedback after putting them through their paces… If they are anything like the Rokit 6’s then hats off to Stanton!!!
