Amit, excellent suggestion.

I sensed the sarcasm, but I felt it’d be fun to play along.

We should start breeding mice with optical sensors along the bottom of their stomachs and wireless receivers for tails. Of course they’d have to rechargable, but imagine the possibilities, it’d be an optical pointing device, a hand warmer, but most importantly, a friend….

Good point. I take my idea back. They should instead put your monitor in one of those globes… so instead of having a screensaver of fish, you can have real fish swimming around your monitor. Ok, I am obviously just kidding.

I was being semisarcastic with the ecosystem idea too. =) I think its obsurd to change mice to have anything in them.

Amit: I’ve seen those self contained ecosystems, they were developed by Nasa to see if you could grow enough food on faraway space stations to facilitate the faraway space stations.

The only problem putting one in your mouse would be the constant sloshing of the water inside the mouse. Dunno how happy your pet sea monkey would be with you playing WOW or HL2.

My first thought is that this mouse is for kids. It’s a snow globe, the nose lights up and the colors change! What more could you ask for?

I think it looks overtly tacky. The smiley face on the top clashes completely with the snowman theme. Should just make it a novelty christmas product and gain the holiday season sales.

Has anyone seen those totally enclosed ecosystems in a globe? (they usually contain some sort of algae, shrimp and plant) Well imagine if someone put those in a mouse. That would be so much cooler.

I wouldn’t mind the actual mouse so much if not for that ridiculous smiley face sticker across the scroll wheel and two mouse buttons. In addition, that light would bug me so bad when I’m working late at night. PS Jean-Marc, that 50 dollar mouse pad that I bought does help me with my game. A lot.

It would be cool to have as a desk piece, for decoration purposes, but imagine actually using that thing, especially for gaming. I’d guess that it would be heavy and bulky, which isn’t bad in some cases, but this looks like it might be too much! :-8

Adam – a lot of people like a little heft to their mice.
I picked up a wireless mouse a few years ago and fell in love because of the heft, not the lack of a cord. There’s a new line of gamer mice out there that actually include a set of weights that you can slide in for the optimal fragging feel. Then again, the people who buy custom-weighed mice are probably the same people who think a $50 mouse pad will improve their game ;)

The theme would be complete if the top was made of gel instead of just plastic. Depending on the price, it’ll be a fun gift to the friend-you-aren’t-that-close-to-but-have-to-buy-something-at-least-for.

This reminds me of that novelty “control panel” that has switches and stuff on it that don’t actually do anything, but is something nice to sit on your desk. Being a programmer, I’ve become very picky about the mice I use. Once I discoverd optical mice, there’s no going back even for a novelty piece like this. My Dad would probably like something like this, though.

With the clear area for the snowglobe, how long would it take to dirty up that glass? I wouldn’t think that would stay clear for too long, especially it’s where the base of the hand rests.. I agree with DeWayne, I don’t particularly like it. Sure, it’d be one of those gifts that you can get for that person that has “everything,” but to me, it’d be more of a White Elephant gift..

I’m with pixelfairy on this one – it’s pretty neat.

What would be even cooler is to have a “make your own” version. Sell the mouse with a hollow spot, the jelly stuff to put in it, snow, etc. Then you glue in some little trinket, fill up the globe, glue on the lid, and you’re done.

This way you can have a custom snow globe mouse. It might be a fun way to display your little good-luck charm or lucky penny.
