Looks like LG is working it’s way back into the home entertainment market with the first product in their TV-PC series. Tagged the DA70, it was launched yesterday in an enticing all black 26-inch LCD television with PC functions letting you watch Family Guy reruns while surfing the net for the newest and greatest stories from the Crunchgear team.
Equipped with an Intel Celeron M430 CPU, 160 GB drive, i945PM chipsets, Intel GMA950 graphics card, a 1 GB DDR2 553 memory and it also features a wireless LAN connection and wireless keyboard.
Expect to pay around $2000. Later this month LG will launch another device for their new line up which will feature even more enhanced PC and an LG-only “time machine”
function which will allow users to capture scenes on live programs by automatically recording broadcast TV.

“…surfing the net for the newest and greatest stories from the Crunchgear team…
Hopefully you can just set the rss feed to popup a notification during programming. :)
I wonder how hard it will be to replace parts if something fails or if it will become like my 19″ tv in the garage with the broken builtin dvd player…

Ok so maybe I meant to put “surfing the net for the newest crotch shots of Britney” or something to that effect.

…this product makes even the Imac look good. My past experiences with “all-in-ones” is that they are great until something breaks, at which point you need to it ALL of it in the trash.

What is the point of having the PC integrated. For around 2000 grand, you could purchase a laptop with better specs and an lcd tv with a bigger size and the wireless keyboard and mouse. That way you still have the ability to watch television, use your PC, and still have the portability of your laptop.

Peter, don’t tell me you don’t have them all downloaded already. I know there’s a new set everyday and all…
Besides, why are you surfing for them when you have a feed for that and it automatically downloads and puts it into your special slideshow and starts playing automatically on a continuous loop and repeats the process with every new set of pics…or something to that effect. :)

It sure seems pricey for what it does. And I’m still not sold on the idea of working on the web and watching TV. I like to watch TV on the couch, not at my desk. I’m all for convergence, and perhaps this combination is a no-brainer, but I still have doubts that anyone outside some early adopters and real dorks will sign up for this thing.

CoBo,
Sign me up as a dork. I recently purchased a 32 inch LCD HD television on Black Friday for $450. Picked up a sweet wireless mouse and keyboard deal for $20. And have recently purchased a new laptop for $1300. Total

It is definately dangerous to buy something at this level that is completely integrated. If something goes wrong with your computer u have no tv, and vice versa. Who wants to go a significant amount of time without either one of them let alone both. The merging of products is not always a good thing.

Adam,
I agree that most things should not be integrated… except for Peanut butter and Jelly. This squeeze it product has both peanut butter and jelly in one and you just squirt it onto your sandwich. No utensils, no crying when you realize you have run out of one of the two ingredients and really want your PB&J. I digress.
I do agree that electronics should not be integrated into one unit unless if it you need to do so for aesthetic reasons. That is why I am not the biggest fan of using the blu-ray player on the PS3. I like the option of upgrading certain parts and replacing them if they burn out.

Heard a few years ago that all our technology would soon be converging into multi-use devices — although, I thought they’d all be portable handheld types like phone slash camera slash gps slash pda slash mp3 player slash flash drive slash automatic car started (hey, not a bad idea!).
Think we’ll see this happening more and more.
