Well the proof is in the pudding and these things for the size and cost are spot on!

They fit easy into the pocket and certainly make music sound a lot better than my laptop and cra**y headphones.

They offer tuff no nonsense protection from scratches bumps and knocks.

At this price you aint got nothing to lose but be prepared to be surprised!

I actually think the laptop scenario might be ok. Most laptop speakers are located on the bottom of the laptop (my thinkpad), and hence I can't really watch a movie without headphones.

If I wanted to watch a movie without headphones, and was traveling, this might be interesting....

But $20, I wonder how it sounds

Actually Gal, it's better to have NO annoying friends at all - just because something is cheap, doesn't mean it needs to be bought. I would save my money and "splurge" on a good set of headphones instead... this way you can "noise cancelate" your annoying friends completely :-)

Kinda reminds me of a backpack that I saw which had speakers embedded in it. Oh here it is, the Sonic Boom Bag.
http://www.xoxide.com/sitechnologies-sonic-boom-bag.html

Once again, I think its just a manufacturer hoping to combine two things and hope that it becomes popular with the teenager crowd.

I can't realistically think of any reason to purchase this except for the small size. I can't seem to find specs on the thing on Google either. Please let me know if you guys have better luck.

By the way, the bottom link is broken.

I haven't seen the Maxell brand since I bought audio cassettes by the dozen for making mixtapes. This looks about as high-fidelity. But a belt loop! That's something!

Anthony, if your current speakers are already horribly weak within your laptop, why do you think two speakers worth a buck each, assembled in some Chinese sweatshop will be any better?

Will these work with laptops? My speakers are horribly weak and I've been looking for anything that can offer some type of improvement that is small and light weight.

Meh, even with equal bitrates the tiny drivers wont be able to push out anything resembling "sound quality". I dont see the point - no replacement for displacement!

This would be horrendous. I would forget to take it off of my cell phone and then forget to silence my phone call. I can just imagine being in class or a meeting and hear my phone booming "smack that" by akon.

"smack that, all on the floor,
smack that, give me some more,
smack that, 'till you get sore
smack that, oooh. "

Agree with Jon on this one - after spending too much time on the bus with some kids at the back playing NWA on their cell phones... Stick with earbuds or if you really want to play music, grab an Osiris G-Bag 1080 with decent speakers built-in and rock out in skater style.

When bit rates become as high as their CD/DVD counterparts, then these guys may be onto something but otherwise, crappy sound quality on a small scale only sounds worse when the volume is turned up. I am also concerned about the sound quality coming out of a 20$ item with two (2!) speakers... raw part material wise these speakers are probably worth 1$ - don't expect keep a lot of friends with this type of DJ equipment ;-)
