So, it’s selecting horizontal, then vertical? Sounds reasonable, and thanks for that tidbit.

@Isaiah,

Bought it earlier and played it during a commute. It's very usable, if you're good with a clickwheel. You select a square the same way you select a calendar date, then click, then a vertical menu lets you choose a number, including the temporary numbers you might use to record possibilities. Probably as efficient as possible given a device with so few buttons.

As for the music, it's this quaint Japanesy musak, but it will play your own music if you have it going when you start the game, and the menu system visuals are quite nice - a Japanese garden which scrolls as you move further in.

Playing Sudoku on an iPod must be maddening. :o Or at the very least, prone to cause headaches with music going on at the same time.

Agreed Bpm, except for on the Meg Ryan thing. I want my iPod kept small, I even find that my regular ipod is to big and am planning on buying a nano. I don't want to carry a bag or backpack with me everywhere to have music. I used to hate running with a walkman\diskman because it was too big, there is no way I'd run with a ds strapped to my arm or waist.

Do people actually sit there and play games on an ipod? I've always thought that keeping the bloat out of these things was a large reason for their success (although I guess the video thing is big now).

And for the record I think Meg Ryan is pretty hot.

I respectfully disagree Amit - they are both going after the same audience which is pretty much everybody. Video games aren't for kids anymore... ever see that Nintendo DS game that trains your brain to be more efficient?

Basically it wouldn't be a stretch to allow the DS to play mp3s nor, as we see increasingly, ipod becoming more "game friendly". If there was ONE device that did both efficiently, I would be first in line to get my hands on it. The PSP is too big... Nintendo has the size thing perfect... two touch screens would greatly enhance navigation through current ipod interfaces as well.

Corporation wise, they are very similar, their focus is entirely on user experience (the Wii is a great example of this) and esthetic design, besides, I am sure they are both produced within a miles of one another in some Chinese factory ;-)

Of course for this to happen, Apple would probably have to spin off its ipod division of which there have also been rumblings for years about.

Keep the fire of hope shinning bright!

An alliance would be nice but I don't see Apple personally working with Nintendo. They have different audiences and different styles. It could be sweet if it works out though. One could only hope.

There where rumors brewing around for quite a while of an alliance between Apple and Nintendo, basically releasing a hardware device that had the best of both worlds... I wonder if Apple starts to see bigger profits from games then its tunes if they will consider making the next version if ipod more game friends (playability wise). I don't know how much Apple pockets from every game but I bet it's far higher then what they make selling tunes or movs.
