So, is this an update for the update released just a few days ago? I can understand updates, but it’s just better practice to get more updates in one go than to push them out every three days. :o

This update it to make it work with Vista Kevin… would be interesting to find out if other MP3 players out in the market also require a firmware update to be compatible. Regardless, as the ipod as shown… expect some sort of update each time a new feature gets modified or turned on… or when a new model comes out which needs to speak to an older one (vice versa).

Firmware updates are the next level to Spam that we will receive from every manufacturing company in the near future.

I have a Lexar JumpGear device that I got back in 2004 and have never needed an update in software. It plays MP3’s quite well. No updates needed.

I agree with Amit that the Zune should have been released with support for Vista at launch, especially with lots of Vista betas having already been floating around since July. The restart situation is also a real bummer…i hate that.

As for updates, I don’t mind them and its an initial product launch so its to be expected. I also have a Mac with iTunes and I get updates all the time (especially with the 7.0). And iTunes is in its fifth generation. And Apple has specific hardware whereas Microsoft handles thousands of different configurations. Technology is always changing so I think you have to accept those situations if you want to be part of technorati.

The Zune device itself is pretty damn awesome. It sounds much better than my old iPod Nano (R.I.P. – battery failure) and my iPod Shuffle. Surprisignly, the interface is tenfold over the iPod for its visual aesthetics and usability, IMHO.

Microsoft is to efficient code what the Zune is to revolutionary.

I don’t expect them to change anytime soon… I think this whole Zune thing as a market leader simply shows what happens to governments, they get so use to way too much money that it ceases to matter in their life and simply do things for the hell of it to keep from becoming bored with their life.

I personally don’t mind the updates but the constant restarts needed with the updates is what bugs me. Most of the time other OSs can update without the need to restart. Also, I understand why the Zune needs to be updated often, variety of hardware to work with, different computer models and so on, but come on … it should have worked with Vista out of the box.

That’s just like Microsoft, isn’t it? Release a half-baked device with crummy software. Then release a river of updates that you have to keep downloading to make sure your POS media player actually plays media.

I’ll stick with my Nano, thank you very much.
