Earlier this month I reported on a low-end DAP called the ZVUE 250 that’d be on shelves at Wal-Marts (like how my dad says it). Well today it’s available at Amazon and in select Wal-Mart stores across the U.S.

It features a 2.5-inch display that supports video up to 30fps. The player comes features an SD slot and comes with one 128MB card. It’ll play MP3, WMV, WMA (with DRM), OGG, AVI, ASF, Xvid and MPEG4.

The ZVUE 250 is available now at an MSRP of $99.95.

  • Isn’t this what the Zune should be? Throw in wifi and you could potentially have something that could put a dent in the ipod armor. Sure the screen size is a little small but if all you do is listen to music and wish to share or “squirt” files to others to enjoy… the small size is warranted. It shows that even with all the money in the world, there is always a little guy with ambition and brains that can blow you out of the water.

  • A decent deal especially with the price of SD these days. I hope products like this continue to be wall-martized, so the real cutting edge stuff gets funded and pushed ahead. To bad they didnt hit the holiday season or this “under $100″ Walmart gift might have blow out its stock.

  • Good entry level MP3 player. The size of the memory card would keep it impossible for it to make a dent in the ipod market. Even the bigger SD cards wouldn’t be quite large enough. Though the price is appealing, an Ipod nano only goes for 50 dollars more and there are hacks to view video on the nano. I think the biggest shortcoming from apple or microsoft is the lack of features which can easily be implemented into their device such as open Wifi for the Zune and video for the nano.

  • It seems to be a common consensus that what a media player would have to have in order to take a decent chance at toppling the iPod from its throne is some sort of *useable* wifi. Other players that have tried – and largely failed – to take on the iPod in terms of useablity, interface, audio/video formats or the like haven’t succeeded. Why?

Because the iPod can already do all of those things at a level above that one particular focus the opposing media player has. It’s the sum of the parts (and the hacking of those parts), not the single part that has carried the iPod. But with wifi…that’s a table-turner, since it’s the one feature that the iPod doesn’t have and others could use/hack.

  • Small and nice looking.
Throw in a 2GB SD and it is a very good choice

  • Looked on Wal-Mart and Amazon.com both said out of stock . Think X-mas was that good?

  • is it possible to hack into this device and add some serious memory , like and external hd 20 g or so
