Tiny Desk Heater For The Inherently Frigid

World’s Smallest Big Heater and while I haven’t done a full survey of the small heater market, I’d have to say it’s gotta be at least high on the list. The 150-watt heater measures 4.75×3.75×3.5 inches, weighs about a pound and plugs into a standard US outlet. It has high and low settings and can work as just a small desk fan, too.

A blue LED indicator ring around the vertically adjustable vent lights up when the heat is on and should you knock it over, it’ll shut itself off. Not bad for $40.

  • What? No USB connector for this?

BTW; thought that a Dell PC fan was for.

  • I too was expecting a USB heater. How many complaints would that stop in the office?

  • Yeah, I was kinda hoping it would be a USB fan, but not sure what kind of demands it would put on a desktop’s PSU.

  • x4 lookin for the usb – although this is pretty cool. I might actually consider buying this since my hands are more or less numb after walking to work on these winter days.

@NW Guy: haha thats what I thought too but once I dropped my dell and got a new Macbook I’ve found these make nice hand/lap warmers on the cold days. Less noise, MORE heat.. ahh.

  • I’m pretty sure those battery fires that were all the rage over the summer and fall would look like sparklers compared to the electrical fires put out by a USB powered heater…

Still given that knowledge, most of us would still go out and buy one, use it, and enjoy the wondorous warmth (along with the occasional desk fire).

  • … or better yet, for 2$ you can buy 10 sixty watt light bulbs and enjoy 600 watts of heat… you can even save money by closing the lights and after a long day, simply put a pan on top and cook an omelet! Multi-tasking at its best… all without the need to ever plug a thing into your overheating USB docks!

  • Yeah, but Jon, this has a pretty blue light. ;)

  • Haha, not to mention it fits the 4.75×3.75×3.5 size requirements that we now must have because a product is available with that size.

  • Give me your address Josh, if all I need to do is send you a pretty blue light to get your vote – consider yourself bribed! hahahahha

If your creative with the light bulbs Jon, all you need is one 2 inch square space on your desktop and simply put one on top the other… may take a little electrical now-how but very do-able. You can then put blue cellophane over the entire thing and have Josh as your first client! Sure beats that Geek Christmas Tree from hell a few days ago!

    Total investment: 3$
    Value: priceless

  • But does it come with a remote control? Does it oscillate? What about a timer?

    My favorite heater

  • Why would you remote control and oscillate something thats clearly designed to be sitting right next to you? Comeon!

  • My office last year used Dell computers… the fans weren’t enough to sate the be-warm wishes of our secretaries. If only I could have offered them this beauty, then maybe we could have done away with some of the monster heaters they had hiding under the desks.

  • Nice! That is, if I could get cleared to use this at the IRS. Trying to type over 5000 KPH during Winter (when my season starts) is maddening.

  • Could really be using this right now. People don’t realize it does get cold (20’s-30’s in Arizona) of course in about six more months everyone will be complaining because we are in the 100’s!

  • Isaiah, I would volunteer to sneak this into your office if your Canadian counterpart agreed to “loose” my tax returns (ei: bills) for 2005 so I don’t need to declare the D40 under “items received but not paid for” line 12 584. Do we have a deal? ;-)

  • You can’t draw enough amps from a USB port for a heater.

And the comment on the light bulb wattage wasn’t correct either. A light bulb primarily converts electricity to light, not heat (though it does heat a little). A heating coil converts almost all of it’s energy to heat.

  • Where can I purchase the tiny desk heater?
