If (and when) Apple releases their ichat mobile/iphone and it really has no buttons it could be a real breakthrough for user interface. Ease of use, more and diverse content, improved navigation etc. They look cool too. If they work..even better!

The only real excitement here is that apple will force other manufacturers to finally innovate, and carriers like cingular to stop ripping out features like wifi in the blackjack and nokia e61.

I don't know Kal... the big thing when ever Steve goes on the stage to show how simple his stuff is vs competition (microsoft remove vs apple remote is most recent one)... he has focused on how few buttons there are... so "many abilities. No buttons" does seem right up Apples alley... though they would probably find a fancier way of saying this. Lets just hope the screen doesn't scratch as easily (now that you would be using your fingers to navigate) as the first generation nano... fingers after an extended period of time can scratch off just about any protective coating... just look at the hand rails to any amusement park... Inever saw such smooth wood in your life!

I don't know....if that's metallic like the current Nano, on top of candybar-ish shape...not too sure how comfortable it will be to use...

A fake of course. The name iPhone is taken, and the first part of the slogan "Many abilities. No buttons" doesn't sound like Apple at all.

I like the buttonless design, but I'm hoping Apple will go with a full touch screen.

OK - spent a couple minutes on Apple's US Application 20060268528 - Handheld Computing Device, refers back to an original application in 2004.

Some salient points to be drawn here on the patent side:

Claim 1 teaches about a a wireless device for communications using a ceramic wall allowing wireless communications.
Claim 6 builds on claim 1 and shows that the device is a portable computing device.
Claim 7 builds on claim 6 and shows that the computing device is a cell phone.

Overall, other claims are interested in a wireless device using a material other than plastic with an internal antenna.

To further support the idea that Apple intended one possible iteration to be a cell phone, in paragraph 0111, they discuss:
"...includes functionality for supporting cellular or mobile phone usage. In this embodiment, the device includes processors, transmitters, receivers, and antennas for supporting RF, and more particularly GSM, DCS and/or PCS wireless communications in the range of about 850 to about 1900 MHz."

In this application, it is clear that they envisioned a cell phone to be added onto an iPod with a unique outer surface.

I want to call fake, but...
"Setup Note: This board should...", on the bottom right makes this look pretty genuine. That's something most photoshopers wouldn't think about, and would make sense because printing houses are probably getting copies of Apple's huge posters

If Kevin mentioned a slide-out keyboard, where would it be in that image? :o (The tagline even says, 'no buttons'. XD) I'm just as hyped about it after reading the article on the 5th, especially since it might not (hopefully not) be carrier-dependant.

I visited iphone.org and I see apple... point taken. You can't have two phone with the same name by two different manufacturers... as Cisco owns the name... apple needs to be creative... maybe

"Introducing the new... i-phone (i dash phone)" ;-)
With the main selling point being that it fits on your dash without slipping off!
