Grown Man Boxes Little Girl, Loses (in Wii Boxing)

There are few things that could tarnish your manhood more than being out-boxed by a little girl in glasses. I’m trying to think of something and I’m drawing blanks at the moment. There must be something, but it’s not coming to me.
At any rate, I think watching the video goes to show just how well the Wii interpolate the gyroscopic data from the Wiimote and Nunchuck. A little girl flailing her arms wildly is enough to beat someone making deliberate motions.
I know the Wii is kicking ass right now, but I’m really disappointed in this technology. It’s quite capable of running better than it actually does, but the games apparently don’t take full advantage of the hardware. I hope this changes soon. Oh well, in the meantime we can all laugh at this guy for getting his ass handed to him by a little girl with glasses.

Lawl. She threw a pretty mean right hook halfway through the video. :D
It’s a bit offsetting to see that the actions aren’t fine tuned as I thought they would be, but I’d rather it lean toward the side of girly-flailing than surgical precision (the former being something that most current Wii owners have no problem doing).

Don’t worry Blake… give the publishers a year of experience with the Wii and you will see some amazing stuff rolled out. I am still impressed that some of the new games for PS2 look better then some for XBox 360!
I actually like this video though, first time I see people actually playing the boxing game… I can’t wait to see how this console expands in the future… but so far… it puts the other two guys (activity wise) to shame… I am sure Nintendo has a huge winner on its hands for those not wanting to get thumb cramps!

Well it raises another problem: playing Wii is very tiring. I’ve played a lot of boxing and I always end up dripping with sweat and looking like an ass. Sure it doesn’t bug me, but I think those fearing thum cramps will probably fear physical activity even more.

Blake: I agree. But I think the people who enjoy playing these games will make the effort to play them regardless of how tiring the games are. Look at the success of the DDR series, that was ridiculuous. Plus, it brings a change to the market and to gamers that I think a lot of people actually appreciate. I consider myself a pretty knowledgeable gamer, having been to my share of LAN battles, and I know a lot of people get really antsy just sitting down and staring into a TV or monitor. By getting players move and interact, it makes the game more entertaining, especially since with exercise your body starts pumping endorphines and adrenaline, making you feel better (thus associating the game with good feeling) and giving you more energy.
There’s almost a sinister science to the Wii…

Well, if the Wii continues to be successful, I got to make a whole new wack of 3D animations for my site so people can track their “fitness” with their console… what would be neat is if you could stick free weights onto these boxing gloves or like we see in movies - have them gain or loose mass with time… would make the realism even better!
I do agree with you Blake… this is why PS3 and Wii are a perfect combo… get up, play Wii a little then sit down, and play PS3 - they are very different systems. Where does the XBox 360 fit in this - hence why I would get a PS3 over Xbox anyday

maybe the woman who walks infront of the camera should trying playing instead of looking pissed. It would help her great. Wii helping the couch bound video gamers get exercise since 2006!

Did you see how fast that girl was moving her arms though? Pair that up with a strong Mii and that guy doesn’t stand a chance.
If anything, I think this is a great example of the Wii being tuned perfectly to be fun, not aggrevating. Can you imagine a boxing game in which your arms had to be a certian height above the ground, bent a certain way, and blocking the oppenent authentically? It’d take all the fun out of the game! The Wii is all about your 80 year old grandmother beating the sh*t out of you while your family watches helplessly :)

Well, having played all of the Wii Sports’ games for quite a bit of time, especially tennis and bowling, I have to say that boxing is the least tuned of the bunch but a blanket statement that the technology is disappointing is a little bit over the top. Tennis and bowling work very well and are as fun as hell. I am sure the dev teams spent the most time on those two games and I think it shows. In addition, Elebits controls very well and is a lot of fun. Trauma Center, though I haven’t played it yet sounds like it works very well too. So, I guess my point is pointing to boxing and it’s shortcomings is not indicative of the Wii’s shortcomings as a whole. Boxing is just not that great, but that little girl seemed to be having a blast.
