Trading PS3s for Wiis: What All the Kids are Doing

As of last Friday, PS3 owners are trading their consoles for Wiis at a considerable loss. Gigagamerz found that 48 traders were offering up their PS3s in San Francisco alone offering to trade plus the cash difference or offer to trade outright at a considerable loss.

One reasonable explanation could be that these traders simply bought multiple consoles and are now trying to get a Wii using the currency of the day, PS3s. We, however, believe that after playing Resistance: The Fall of Man a few times, these PS3 owners are longing for the image of pixelated elf characters riding on the plains of Hyrule. Either way, it doesn’t not bode well for Sony.

PS3s Being Traded For Wiis [GigaGamerz]

  • If I had either system, I’d hang on to it instead of trying to cross-trade at this point, especially while still being in the holiday season (to avoid in-store drama, getting shorthanded because of a lack of stock…).

Also, shouldn’t the title be Trading PS3s for Wiis: What All the Kids are Doing? I mean, the PS3s are the system being traded. :D

  • Title absolutely should be reversed. Fixing it.

  • I think it’s a good deal all the way around, the kids get the extra cash with a pretty good Nintendo Wii machine and you get a PS3 which is still tough to find. I don’t see any losers in this exchange… anyways, back to playing games on my PC ;-)

  • Sort of an off-topic comment……. The different target markets of the Wii and PS3 are amazing. This really was brought home when my wife and I saw a Wii commercial the other day. Now, she is the FARTHEST IN THE WORLD from a gamer. And by the end of the Wii commercial, she was actually commenting that the Wii looked like a WHOLE lot of fun.

    Spooky, I say, SPOOKY!

  • Alright guys, I can’t even begin to tell you how screwed Sony is with PS3. Some inside deets I can’t quite spill yet, but the company is royally F-ed. Look for some Sony execs to commit hari cari in the near future.

  • Insider trading much Seth ;-) ? I won’t sell my shares in Sony just yet (as if I had any, and if I did, I would have cut my losses and sold them before the PS3 released), but I’ve also heard some rumblings about Sony though the market wires. And hari kari is a little bit understated, I’ll be expecting Sony’s PS3 division to kamikaze into MS to take it’s arch nemesis at least.
