The recording items can be very scary….my sons were playing with a small stuffed toy in a store before christmas. One saying his name the other calling him stupid. It took a while to get them out of the store.

Next day…my wife walked into the store and squeezed the toy; and got my son’s name! Needless to say the store made a sale and we have another not so nice gadget that repeats phrases endlessly..repeats phrases endlessly…repeats phrases endlessly…

Be careful…my vote…very scary!!

I can see alot of cool uses for this…to pull pranks of course. The first thing I thought of when I saw this was those strips in money. That would be kinda cool to run your thumb down the strip and it tells you the denomination. No more need for all the markers. Ehh, maybe not. Everytime you sit down everyone would look at you funny with your wallet going “one-one-one-one-five”…

I seriously see no real pratical use for this (hallmark cards maybe?). Full rfid and the keychain-sized-reader-with-speech we will all have (unless it’s implanted and is linked to our ear implanted headphones via bluetooth) is what we should be talking about. :)

If perfected, this could be useful in helping blind people outside of braille. Instead of feeling for the dots, they could just run their nail across the strip and they can hear the description for the item they are holding or looking for. Sounds promising!

I think a blind person’s fingernail wound get worn out pretty fast. But you could use something else, I suppose….

I think these are really cool……

That’s true, but really all it would take is a small, thin piece of plastic on a lanyard or something to give it the same effect. Cheap and effective.

Assistance for the blind? Audio embedded money? New idea or technology is more often used frivolously to make as much money as possible. I see this this used in marketing gimmicks to play the audio “your a winner” and “sorry, play again”or as cereal box prizes. Or as Scott Adams wrote when stalking about star trek, if humans actually invented a device that could close injuries suck as knife wounds, chances are it would be sold in novelty shops and used to close up your victims anus.
