Tattoos for the Indescisive

For years I’ve considered tattooing various lines of verse and prose all over my back. The problem is that I often change my mind on what lines I’d want to stick on my body (although the opening verse of “The Waste Land” and various lines from Blood Meridian have endured as ideas for sometime).

Fortunately for people like me, a new type of ink will soon be introduced that is completely removable by conventional laser treatment. The developers say that the new ink will reduce tattoo removal costs to about $1,000 per tattoo and emphasize that the tat will be completely removed.

It is also said that the company is working on an ink composed of biodegradable polymer beads that fade over the course of years. I guess now my excuses are lessened significantly and everyone will realize I’m just a wuss. Crap.

  • Nut up Blake and be like me…a tattooed freak! :)

  • Thanks but I’ll just keep giving blood. No need to do paint by needle.

    Hold strong Blake!

  • This is an interesting idea that I’ve thought about before believe it or not.

On another note, I’ve been hearing a lot of advertisements for this stuff called Wrecking Balm (http://www.wreckingbalm.com) that claims to slowly fade your tattoo away and I wonder if it really works. I don’t have any ink myself, but it’s an interesting idea nonetheless.

  • As someone who got a tattoo a couple of months ago, this is definitely an interesting article. I don’t think the decision would change quite so much for me, however. It would probably have made my wife happier about it all, though…. :)

  • Only in black thus far..

Ive never been against the idea of a tattoo but never have found anything I find significant enough to place on my body permanently.

Even this “temp” solution seems like an expensive go at it but its a cool option nonetheless.

  • I think posting stuff on the net is the modern day equivalent of a tattoo… hopefully I haven’t said too many stupid things ;-) I do have a tattoo I designed myself but I can’t decide where to put it… I do like the option of lasering it off at a later date – it would make me more prone to getting a “mike tyson” face tattoo which I think is seriously cool and right up my alley to too chicken to do it, though once I achieve my financial goals, I will be at a point where I don’t care and will get it done.

  • Interesting content, although I’ve never considered getting a tattoo my self. This might make me reconsider however. I’ve always been afraid that I’d end up like that wrinkly old man whose tattoos you can’t make out because of sagging skin. If I can get it removed before my skin loosens up, that would be a nice bonus. :-)

  • If the only thing you have to worry about at that age is not being able to read your tats, you’ve done something right.

  • I don’t understand why you would want to get your tattoos removed ‘at a later date’. I would never want to cover up or get rid of any of mine but that’s just me, I knew what I wanted so I guess that’s the difference. I wouldn’t get one just to be cool or go with what’s in fashion because that’s just lame and that should never be a reason to get one in the first place. I bet you those old geezers have stories to tell you about those tattoos though.

  • The only reason I won’t get a tattoo is that I dislike the permanence of them. I consider how much my life has changed every 5 or so years, and it creeps me out to think I could have a permanent mark of that.

However, I would totally be down for a tattoo that would last between 6 months and a year. Unfortunately the costs would not be realistic.

  • The point of a tattoo is that it is perminent, it totally looses it’s meaning if you can have it taken away. It’s like those gay henna tattoos hippies get, there is no point to a tattoo that you want to get rid of later.

  • I had this idea about 10 years ago….. biodegradable tattoo ink…. that would fade away in 6 months…. if you were happy with it you could have it done permanently….. but the prob is that the tattoo process leaves scar tissue…. so the ink will fade but you will still see something
