My employer is going to help me out with a reasonable priced ergonomic chair of my choosing, as I've acquired some significant back and sciatic pain in 2 years. We cannot afford anything too far over the 200-250 dollars limit. I'm considering a knee-chair that has a back on it, sort of like "training wheels" for my posture. Does anyone have thoughts on the knee-chair. I see no feedback about this here. Please help! My back is killing me!

I was suffering from backaches, sitting for hours in the office on the chair was very tiring. I was searching for a good chair & wanted to buy it directly from the Manufacturers to reduce the cost. I came across this site Ergo4me.com on Google, ordered for customized ergonomic chair according to my body type. They have a good variety of ergonomic chairs & it can be adjusted a thousand different ways as it has a unique 10-point posture control. My back loves it. Bye Backaches & thanks ergo4me.

I really love the herman miller chairs! they're incredibly comfortable... even for someone like me with a bad back! i found a bunch of info on the aeron chair at www.aeronchairguide.com and decided to try it out. so far, it's been the only office chair i've been able to sit in for an extended period of time without my back hurting. i'm glad there are other sites like yours devoted to finding the right ergonomic chair, because it's SO important -- especially for those with desk jobs!

A friend of mine was recently at the MacWorld Expo and saw the Swingseat there. Said it was very comfortable. Also said that the people in the booth thought it was "almost" as good [though much easier to use and adjust] as the Steelcase Leap [which has a lot of adjustments and also costs more than twice as much]. They only sell mail order. Gilbert posted on 4-12-07 on this blog that he liked the SwingSeat but didn't compare it to anything. Has anyone had a chance to sit in both the SwingSeat and the Leap, and/or do a comparison? It would be nice to know before I buy. Thanx. Bob Gale

i am six feet three inches tall and about 210 pounds. what do you think is the best hi-back chair with a headrest for the money on the market for someone my size? i want to try out the raynor ergohuman and the nightingale cxo. also-----i am thinking that a chair with a mesh back and leather covered bottom or a seat bottom like the cxo with memory foam would be the most comfortable over the long haul. thanks for your input! steve morgan

really like your idea with the taller stool and bar-like computer counter --for now though, I may just go out today and buy a large exercise ball and see if that's really workable - manageable. If so, finally, sitting at a computer could have the potential of being good for my body instead of driving it toward being broken down.

I feel I might help people with a suggestion that the skill level of the person fitting a chair is key to a successful match. As with most things "one size fits all" really translates to "one size fits none". A trained and knowledgeable sales person can make all the difference in getting the chair that will fit you, your style and your environment. We offer a number of chair lines including a customizable line from Soma that offers almost 2000 possible combinations. Without the right advice, finding the best chair for the individual does not have very good odds.

A reputable ergonomic chair vendor will have chairs that fit the small to large and everyone in between. A full line of chairs can fit an individual from 4' to 7' and up to 500 pounds and will last a good 10 years.

While a good chair is an investment it will do more for you than you may think. Less back pain and fatigue will make you more than happy with your investment.

I sell ergonomic chairs including many of the above mentioned chairs including the Ergohuman, Humanscale Freedom and Liberty, Aeron, Swopper and several lines that are truly customized (great for people with back problems or who aren't average sized) - note: not all our lines are on the website as of today..we are adding many new products!

The "perfect" chair is somewhat subjective but the value of a well-built and designed chair is unarguable. I remember "upgrading" to an Office Depot leather chair (about $100) a year or so ago for my home office (prior to the current job). It's already wobbly in the back and thanks to my job, where I get to try out all these chairs, I totally see the value of a high quality chair that fits. As others have stated, even $1000 is a bargain if you're a chair warrior like me.

I'm in my Freedom chair 10 hours a day and I can't wait until I upgrade at home. I love the Freedom chair because it fits my petite structure like it was made for me. This was far more comfortable to me than the Ergohuman, Aeron or even the Mirra. I haven't bought a new one yet because I want to demo the new Voss chairs, as well as the BodyBilt and Neutral Posture chairs for long periods before making the choice.

Chair warriors of America unite and get a great chair!!!!

Great article Blake, there really is no substitute for a quality office chair if you spend your working day in an office.

It's often very difficult to convince people that you really do need to buy a proper ergonomic chair, something that will last for 5 - 10 years. It really is an investment both in terms of health and your overall productivity.

On my website http://www.officechairadvice.com/ergonomic/ I explain what to look for in an office chair, as well as extensive reviews of quality office seats.

With exception to the Swooper all the chairs reveiwed are of the same basic design popular for the past 100 years.
We have an unique Patented chair that promotes movement not only front-back but side - side constantly. The result of this constant movement is the strengthening of the core muscles of the lower back where because of lack of excersise 95% of all back pain originates. www.TheraBalanceChair.com

I have had lower back problems for a long time now from long hours at the computer desk and the inability to get many breaks from the same akward position. I finally convinced my boss that he needs to spring for some nice ergonomic chairs for the whole crew and he agreed! I searched a ton of websites and did some research before finally deciding on the Eurotech Ergohuman mesh chair. I loved the ergonomic headrest and therefore eliminated almost all the other leading models. It was down to the Ergohuman by Raynor and the Freedom by Humanscale. Although very comfortable, the Freedom chair didn't have as many adjustments and the mesh was so much more comfortable than the traditional fabric. I found most of my information from http://www.1officefurnituremall.com/eurotech-ergohuman-chairs.htm and ended up buying the chair for just under $600 delivered. I have had it for a few weeks and think it is fantastic. I have no regrets and recommend this model to anyone in need of an intensive use chair.

Regarding the cost of these chairs, once you've had to be treated for back problems (physical therapy, chiropractor, acupuncture, etc.), these things pay for themselves. Talk about an ounce of prevention! At my new project, we have terrible chairs and everyone has back problems after 6 months.

I found the SwingSeat Computer chair from SmartMotion to be incredibly comfy for my bad back. The backrest stays with you upright or reclined and the seat motion is very natural. Armrests can adjust for height, width, angle, even disappear! I am 6'4" and it fits with the optional tall gas lift. Drawback - you gotta buy it online at their web site, swingseat.com, but they have a video that shows exactly how the chair works.

I found the SwingSeat Computer chair from SmartMotion to be incredibly comfy for my bad back. The backrest stays with you upright or reclined and the seat motion is very natural. Armrests can adjust for height, width, angle, even disappear! I am 6′4″ and it fits with the optional tall gas lift. Drawback - you gotta buy it online at their web site, swingseat.com, but they have a video that shows exactly how the chair works.
