Do you remember the pop under ads by X-10 for cameras?

Yep, and the only better marketing pitch than those are "If you experience erections lasting longer than four hours..."

Another locked Cingular service (determined by the coverage map) at $60/mo, 2 yr commitment? If they do that why not subsidize the device; $450 upfront seems steep?? How much would it cost without a service contract?

Also, if you're going to have live pics on the website maybe one of the cameras should be indoors so that you don't post all "black screens"? Let's be a little creative, don't these guys have a neighborhood bar they could broadcast from??

450 is a hefty price, but this is a pretty ingenious item. It looks pretty well built, and the specs for an outdoor webcam are pretty nice. The only problem I could see is that at 4.5 lbs, this is a pretty hefty item, not something small and secretive. Of course, adding in a dedicated solar power source is already a red flag for those who enjoy the neighborhood spy games.

What i'm confused about is the "monthly subscription" cost. In addition to buying the webcam, I assume this company is going to require you to use their service to archive the webcam info for your access whenever you use.

All in all, sounds like a good deal. Maybe municipal or local governments could increase the amount of Big Brother going on, but this sounds like a neat product. I like how it uses GSM/Edge networks also, which is something innovative for wireless devices like this.

I predict this is the biggest innovation in the peeping-tom industry since the web-cam and before that, binoculars.
