Leather is better? Airport security will always be an issue; maybe they should have a geek on call at major checkpoints to help identify usable technology. Of course a government geek only has two options - military that thinks your eyeglasses are actually ear-mounted lasers or the beauracrat that thinks leading edge tech is carrying a mag tape instead of a deck of punched cards (put that in their for Paul T' pleasure ;) )

Sales are slow? Wrap it in leather and double the price... guaranteed to sell out! I bet this is what the "brown" zune was after but they couldn't cough up the extra $$$, or, mmm... additional market loss leader debts, to pull it off.

Talking about hedonism... when is your next party Matt? Be sure to send me an invitation will ya! ;-)

Believe it or not, but a co-worker of mine actually ran into problems at the airport with a leather-wrapped USB stick, which is longer and with a smaller leather-cap than in the picture above. Apparently airport officials thought it looked too much like a snap-out knife that was dangling from his key-chain as he grabbed it from the container after going through the security check-point. Eventually they let him go with it, but not after looking at it with three people to figure out if somehow this USB stick would transform into a deadly leather-wrapped weapon.

My advice is, if you are a frequent flyer, stick with the basic openly geeky tools, at least then nobody will treat you like a terrorist! ;-)
