DIY Pong Watch

Sure it’s nearly the size of a Gameboy, but this homemade Pong watch is pretty pimp. It appears to just play with itself endlessly, but I imagine it could be somewhat entrancing when you should probably be doing more important things.

It uses a 10mm case with a 96×64 OLED dsplay. Oh and battery life is just 25 hours so it might not be hospitable for late nights.

This looks more like a commercial for maus-hammer than one of those geeky DIY gadget videos. It’s still geeky and very DIY, but with the close-ups and the music and everything it has a weird feel to it. Also, it’s not as big as Blake makes it sound! However, what I wasn’t able to gather from this infomercial is how time actually advances, i.e. is the time the ball takes to get from one pad to the other exactly one second? Does the ball go out and score a point to the full minute so that the score=time advances appropriately?

I never thought I would ever write this but this product is completely useless and I like it! Got nothing to do… watch the ball go back and forth on your wrist… time will guys fly!

@Sascha - Yeah, I did focus on the maushammer logo on the pc board a bit too much… there isn’t that much else on the board, and my name sticks out a lot.

Every minute the right side scores a point; every hour the left side scores a point (and then the right side goes back to zero). The ball isn’t synchronized to the seconds, so the time can be off by up to 3 seconds. The idea isn’t mine - it was originally done in a really cool pong clock: http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/25/the-pong-clock/
