  • Hm, a drive that reads both formats but writes only one format makes me think they are still pushing or favoring BluRay. Unless they come out with a second drive that reads both formats but writes only HD-DVD. But what we all actually want is a drive that reads and writes both formats!!

Has anyone actually given thought to the possibility that the format war might never end, i.e. that we end up having the same thing as with DVD-R and DVD+R, where both formats co-exist, since they are supported by pretty much all readers and writers anyway? Sure, DVD+R seems to be a little bit stronger than DVD-R in terms of media prices and writer speeds, but nonetheless DVD-R isn’t just going away by itself.

Having too many hybrid-drives that support both formats before people make up their minds could therefore elongate the whole format war significantly, up to the point where nobody cares anymore and just buys what’s cheaper or what the local store around the corner offers.

  • Now all I need is a lot of cash to buy this SuperMultidrive, a ps3, and someone who can hack ps3.
