Toshiba Releases HD DVD Drive

Toshiba has brought the world it’s first HD DVD write drive while still supporting older formats, ie DVD and CD. A few sample drives of the SD-H903A will begin shipping out this month. It’s not the quickest but it is the first so we’ll give Toshiba some credit, it burns at 1x for both single and dual layer HD DVD-R. It buffers at 8MB and is said to support all HD DVD due to an optical pick-up head with only a single objective lens. CES is just around the corner so we should be able to catch a glimpse of what this is capable of in a few days, Booth 7914.

Peter (Who am I?)

The reality of this is that we will all wait until someone like http://www.slysoft.com with their anydvd product breaks the encryption before these start flying off the shelves :)

For now I’ll stick with backing up my regular dvd’s.
