M-Audio invited us to check out their new line of speakers in a sweet hotel suite so the acoustics were proper. I listened to multiple songs from both my iPod and M-Audio’s and the quality of these are great. The low end AV20s cost $99, the AV30s are $129, and the AV40s are $149. The AV30 and AV40 both come with input and output 3.5mm jacks on the front.

They’ll be available in about a month and are pretty decent bang for the buck – especially for musicians looking for a cheap pair of monitors.

  • Question: how do the speakers connect to one another? Do you run the 3.5mm out to one speaker and then slave the other?

    I’m interested. I’m a musician… and I’m cheap (so constrained by budget).

  • Hey Lp,

If I recall, when I was checking them out, they connect via some cable and then one is the master speaker with the power, 3.5mm out, etc.

And of course you’re cheap. All musicians (myself included) are! ;)

I reccomend if you’re on a budget, you pick up the AV30s. The extra $30 goes a long way and you get extra ports on the front for headphones and line out.

  • (Cue Homer Simpson Sound, “ahhhhhhhghhghhh”)

That would be excellent for monitoring Reason for writing loops and whatnot. I’ll be keeping tabs on this’n.

  • Glad to hear it

  • Are the AVs meant to replace the DX4 and Studio Pro monitors? In other words, is M-Audio phasing out the DX4 and Studio Pro to make way for the AV series?
