Sling Media announced this morning that not only would it be producing a version of its SlingPlayer software for the Palm OS, but that they’re releasing an entirely new product: The SlingCatcher. What is SlingCatcher? Sounds like a jacked up SlingBox. From the release:
“The SlingCatcher includes both standard definition and high definition AV outputs to connect to a TV including HDMI, Component, S-Video and Composite video, as well as analog and digital audio. In regards to network connectivity, the SlingCatcher features both integrated wireless and a standard Ethernet jack to connect to the home. SlingCatcher will be available for purchase by the middle of this year and the company is targeting a price point under $200.”
You’ll also be able to do things like access your DVR from multiple television sets. It comes bundled with SlingProjector - an app that allows you to deliver any website, media, audio, video etc. to your television wirelessly. Looks like Sling wants to branch out into other devices and what not. We dig it.

Dave, for streaming music throughout your house there are better/smaller/cheaper devices from other companies, this thing is really for people who want to stream TV and videos to anywhere in the house/world. After the Netgear HD set-top box this is another nice addition to a market segment which seems to be taking off right now. As more and more homes come pre-wired with Cat5/6 Ethernet cables, hooking up your TVs to streaming boxes will become second nature very soon. One day you’ll be looking back wondering how you ever survived without it, just like you’re wondering now how you survived as a kid without a cellphone ;-)
