Eton Self Powered Radio

Most of the larger booths at CES probably pull more electricity than is used by a small city. But even if you’re not one of those “green” types, you have to admit the idea of saving a little bit of energy is a good idea. Eton Corporation also does so without looking all hippie to boot. Their FR 300 self-powered AM/FM radio with NOAA (National Oceanic & & Atmospheric Association) and TV-VHF audio channels will have you covered when the lights go out. The hand-crank can even power a built-in flashlight and cell-phone charger, and of course lets you listen in on the end of the world.

  • Don’t laugh – this type of device is GREAT! I have an old (Freespace, circa 2000?) hand crank radio and it has helped tremendously during the frequent power outages that I have.

The added feature of a cell phone charger is great! I’ve noticed in recent outages that the Carriers are trying to get generators out to their cell sites to keep the network going so having a live phone would be useful (big joke on neighbors who “lost service” in the outages due to all cordless phones in the home or VoIP..HAHAHA).

Putting the flashlight on the same device strikes me as a Swiss Army Knife move, maybe feature creep?

However, my radio has an option that I’d like to see here – solar input so if the weather breaks you don’t have to keep cranking for the radio to play!

Put this on your shopping list if you don’t have reliable power!

  • I’m surprised it doesn’t have a peace symbol on it.
