 on your phone so you can find info fast, which is important when you’re dealing with a small screen. The technology is built on Qualcomm’s BREW uiOne platform on select Alltel Wireless handsets and on all of their new phones by late-2007. There are currently 10 cells available and are free to use. New modules will be available for download too, and the software is open to the developer community, so all manner of options should be possible.

This is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. The Dashboard/widget/whatever-you-want-to-call-it compact instrumentation display is exactly what ALL cell phones should do. I hope Microsoft, Palm and Symbian gets a whiff of this approach and incorporates some form of it in their smartphone OS’s
I definitely want to look at my phone and get a quick snap shot of the information important to me including appts, contact info related to appts, weather, GPS, star positions (I run Pocket Stars on my Cellphone — did I mention I was an amateur astronomer?) or whatever I am tracking on my cell phone.
It almost makes me want to be an ALLTEL customer.
I really like this concept to. It’s about time the widget format was introduced by a major mobile network operator (5th largest, so I think that is considered as major). I call it mobile 2.0. Wow, a real innovation in the cell phone navigation process. Clean content, easy to get to. I can get it today, and it’s affordable. Love the fixed, 10 bucks a month data price too. Can’t wait to see what widgets come out next!
