I’m normally pretty stoked to see surf related products in the mainstream but as usual I’m always disappointed. The OSIM uSurf definitely takes top honors as the biggest waste of $500 I have ever seen in my entire life. Sure it rocks back and forth and front to back but come on! This item is crap as a cross training tool and it definitely doesn’t look very fun. Essentially you can get a better workout and have way more fun if you spend 20 bucks at your local Ace hardware. Just comment if you’re inclined to know how (I’m CG’s big surfer, so I’m available for consultation). If I hear of anyone purchasing this POS then I’ll be sure to laugh and point.

Hahaha, I agree with you on this OSIM uSurf looks like a total waste of money!
Ummm… so you’ve never even tried it? Go to Brookstone, it’s actually sort of cool and I could feel my abs worked after just 30 seconds on it.
No kidding,
Try it – I thought it looked life fun – put it on speed 2 for 60 seconds and try walking – my calves and quads burned – as a matter of fact, I found this site while trying to price it out – a must have in my book
My wife bought the uzap & the I-care. They are both crap & waste of money.
UZap cannot help to loose weight & the I-care is hard to use.
I have concluded that OSIm produces & sells rubbish.
I hate OSIM

It is proven that the igallop can cause damage to your back
Since it is osim, I am sure it is crap like the UZAP, igallop & i-care.
Uzap did not help to loose weight and gave me back pain
I-care is hard to use since the eyes are covered and can’t see the remote
I-gallop is proven to cause spinal damage.
I am sure this Usurf is useless and a waste of money
I would love to know what gizmo you cook up for 20 bucks at Ace Hardware that is also fun to use.
Thanks.
I disagree strongly with this review. I think if someone is recouperating at home, or for some reason can no longer get to the mountains, etc. Then this exercise machine is a 10 as far as I’m concerned. I tried it last weekend, and I can’t remember when I’ve
had so much fun on an exercise machine. It was actually FUN.
I have a client who is a former wind surfer and can no longer surf or go to the
mountains due to health problems. He fell in love with this gadget, and its given
him no end of positive spirit. When you fall ill and are used to being an active
person, SPIRIT is the key to getting well again.
Sorry, I had to disagree!
People are being pretty closed minded about the usurf. Actually, it is one of the coolest, most versatile exercise machines around. I got one at brookstone for $160 including the tax.
Sure, if you stand on it like an ape it is easy, but try to do bodyweight squats or maintain a stance with your thighs palalel to the ground. And then…do a “plank” with your hands on it. Be careful, but it is very hard. I’m going to build up to do a handstand on it. Try standing on it with one leg, etc. There are tons of things you can do with it. It is very sturdy and basically only limited by your imagination.
It’s also a lot of fun!!
I realize that there may be crap, made by this company, but the usurf seems to give a real workout to core muscles – the kind you use with surfing and other board sports. Peter Ha’s comments are uniformed and come from an individual who (makes me want to laugh and point)…NEVER TRIED IT.
Just purchased one of these… fell in love with it after trying it for a couple minutes at the store. I could actually feel it start working in that little amount of time. I’m usually skeptical about things I see in Brookstone, as they just seem to be a waste of money (the uGallop, or whatever that is, it was fun to watch my gf ride it, but that’s about it) but when I tried the uSurf I actually enjoyed myself… I have surfed numerous times before, and I lift weights 4 to 5 times a week, but I have little time to supplement cardio into my weekly routines with a 9-5 and a 3 hour total commute to/from work, so being able to have a fun machine help me tone my core seemed like a no-brainer to me. Not to mention, when I bought it (7/20/2008) it was NOT $500 – The price had been dropped to $100 and the 2 year extension of the full parts replacement and repair plan was only $15.
But as with anything, try it out first… I probably wouldn’t recommend it for those with weak ankles, but for everyone else out there, give it a try, and see what works. Don’t listen to the review of someone who a) bases his opinions solely on previous ill-conceived devices b) doesn’t even imply that he tried a machine that he’s reviewing. Obviously he’s not an objective reviewer, and his opinion is biased and uninformed.
I actually would recommend it for people with weak ankles. I’m using it in physical therapy to strengthen an injured ankle. Of course, that’s with professional supervision, but it’s really doing wonders for my ankle.
I LOVE IT! I just tried it and am not athletic at all. My trouble areas are buns and thighs and I could feel it burning and working immediately! This machine does the work for you. All you do is crouch like you are surfing and it does the work. Don’t get me wrong, you will feel it later which is good..
umm i tried this at the store and only being on there a few minutes i could feel it working ive been wanting it for a while and if i could ever afford it i would totally go for this before anything else and its so fun
The video workout is actualy really tough, but this thing sucks. Better off with a deflated basketball and a piece of plywood……….Anyone want to buy a used usurf?
After using the usurf for three days I noticed discoloration (like bruising) on my thighs and it brought out cellulite which I swear was not there before. Did anyone else have these issues?
In Ack’s comment a video was mentioned. There was no video with my usurf which I purchased on March 8, 2009. Does a video come with usurf?
It works very well for me. The workout is subtle and the results cumulative. As an aging person who is not windsurfing anymore and misses it I was feeling balance and muscle tone waning. This thing is bringing it back. As with anything it gives back according to what you put in. I am learning to juggle on it and emphasizing one leg stands and bends so overall balance and tone coming back in a big way. Bye the way, I would only buy it on sale unless I was feeling way rich.
I injured my ankle and was introduced to the uSurf at physical therapy. My therapist swears by it, and it has done wonders for strengthening my ankle and improving my balance so I hopefully won’t injure it again. I think it’s fun and can’t wait to use it at each session. I’m going to buy one to use at home.
Hey, I don’t have a horse to ride anymore and think the ugallop looks like a great time. I saw it on “The Doctors” show and they liked it too! Anyone have one they want to sell? Anyone that thinks riding is not exerscise is nuts!!!!
