Have you tried a hard reset on the device? Hold down the '+' volume button and press the Select button. That should fix it.

As for the files, I have no problem adding and removing files while the device is connected as UMS (or MSC) device. It's just like a USB drive in that mode.

I got one o the 1 gig models about three months ago, maybe a little more.

It's a decent little thing and does the job, but I could never ever delete anything off it, when I first loaded it up I uploaded the same album three times by mistake, I had to format it and start again to get rid of them.
When uploading lots of songs I would often be told that the device was not responding, I would have to restart the PC to get it working again and upload another 200megs before it stopped working again.
Now it has finally died on me, I have plugged it into the PC and it's not even coming up as being plugged in, when I pull it out the logo flashes for a few seconds and then it dies.

Got one for my birthday.

the firmware is horible for listening to mp3 audio books (my primary purpose for an mp3 player). if it doesn't recobnise it as a album, it shoves everythin under unknown album heading, if it does recognise it as being ripped from a CD it in its own heading even if its the only song, so putting stuff into folds doent do anything, the player just shoves them were ever. another big problem for my is the short pause time before shutting down, then it looses its position, not such a big deal when your listening to random music, but when you trying to listen to an audio book, it is intolerable. some of the downloads come as multi hour tracks (yes even the legitamate downloads can be like that)
it does have an audiobook heading, but no folder to put stuff into it. I think its just for audible files or something

I'll try updating the firmware. too bad rockbox doesn't suport it.

Also not real impressed with the battery life, but that might be a function shitty earbuds. it was looking like a 1/4 charge or less after non constant use 7 hour day.

maybe I can get a miniUSB to usb adapter to chage it from my phone charger, if I can ever get the firmware to function so I can use it.

If I ever find who stold my Creative Muvu TX, I'll break thier arms.

Do not purchase this product. Sandisk makes quality flash thumb drives and SD cards, but terrible mp3 players. Remember, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

This mp3 player is a piece of shit. I formatted the 1Gb internal memory as Sansa suggested and now the piece of shit will not turn on. Hard reboot you say? No. My 3 computers won't even recognize it. Do yourself a huge favor and purchase an ipod. ANY IPOD. I bought the 4GB Nano. Works flawlessly. Remember, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

I want an MP3 player for recording talk radio off the internet. Will this model do that easily or should I keep searching? I also want to be able to connect a speaker to it for listening while gardening.
Thanks,
Ginny

own the 1gb version w/ 2gb card for about 6 months now. Replaced the ear buds with better quality.
What i really like is you can use it like a flash drive.
Put homework on it at home and down load it at school.
No need for a cable to connect.

lost it last week, but i'm sure some honest college student will return it, yea right.
will buy new one, 2gb this time plus 2gb card.

I too have had my go dead on me. usually after about 2 or 3 minutes of waiting and playing with buttons, I can get it to turn back on. I thought I might have had a defective device but it looks like it's not just me. I'm taking it back to BB today anyway for a new one. It's a shame, of this problem is not fixable. This player has been extremely useful and I've enjoyed it for the month or so I've had it.

to jackie,

If your sansa turn on and Sandisk logo appears and shut off 2 seconds later? Hard reset cannot make any different.

pls pluck in a microSD and turn on it.
It may work.
Copy all your music back to your pc.
Then, format internal memory.

Haha,
Mine also have the problem..... and i solve it.

to jackie,
Are your sansa is turn black after 2 seconds sandisk logo appears when yo turn it on. Just to tell you, this happens to me too... Sob... I perform hard reset but it doesnt make any different. However, i complain this to Sandisk.

There's a way to help you, hope it help.
So I bought an microsd card by sandisk. I plugged the card in and turned it on and voila! It works! I still had all my songs in there. Pls copy all songs back to your pc. Then, format the internal memory just to make sure it wouldn't screw up again.

Try out this fix before you chuck out your sansa express

sansa express can be change to msc mode by
•Plug in your device. It should be recognized by the system and installed as an MTP device the first time you plug it in.
•Open Device Manager. Find your Sansa Express under Portable Devices. Right click. Update driver.
•Select: No, not this time, Next.
•Select: Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), Next.
•Select: Don’t Search. I will choose the driver to install, Next.
•Be sure to check the box beside Show compatible hardware.
•Highlight USB Mass Storage Device, Next.
Complete
Hope this may help u
