Nokia N800 Hands On

Got the N800 yesterday and I can’t say I’m blown away. I liked the N770 — a lot of folks didn’t — and this is an impressive upgrade but it’s not currently a must have. One interesting little thing? There’s an ingenious stalk webcam that pops out of the side. Maemo is just about the same, with few improvements, but the overall experience seems much faster and much cleaner than on the slower 770.

I’ll video this in a few days and we can go through all of the improved features. Until then, enjoy my fine photography.

  • I’d love to see some screenshots of it browsing the Guardian Newspaper digital edition. There’s a sample at http://www.guardian.co.uk/digital/

(That’s my killer app for a web tablet.)

  • John, I picked up an N800 on Saturday. While “blown away” might be strong, I do like the device. It is small enough, yet I can read my own blog on it. The built in RSS reader is nice enough (but it won’t replace Google Reader any time soon.

There aren’t enough compiled applications yet, but my kids do love playing games on it. I think it’ll find a place in my travel bag.

  • See, that was my issue. The 770 is a great bedside tablet but on the road it wasn’t quite a computer and not quite a PDA. I love the form factor and the concept, however.
