TellMe: A Robot Does the Searching, You Do the Swearing
  • 1 Comment
by John Biggs on January 23, 2007

Oliver at MobileCrunch and Mike at TC got to test out the latest version of TellMe, a voice-enabled search service that lets you tell a robot what you’re looking for. The robot then sends you a map, if necessary, and lets you call the locaation or SMS directions to friends.

TellMe requires a tiny standalone app for the mapping and it seems to be free right now, so it’s a considerable improvement over paying $5 for 411 from your carrier. Let’s pray that it works better than the standard “Hmmm… I’m not sure I understood what you mean. Can you repeat that?” robots we deal with on a daily basis.

  • That sounds awesome. The future is definately going to be in machines that listen to your voice. I’m a strong believer in the capabilities of voice and speech recognition software.

You should be able to use your cell phone to call your house and tell it to turn the lights on/off. Or, call your DVR to tell it to start recording your favorite show.

    Very cool.
