The PlayStation 3 Is The Best Console Ever

Let’s face it. You know Sony kicks ass. You totally had a wet dream back in the 1990s when you saw the PlayStation and when PS2 fever hit, you bum-rushed Target hoping to get one. So why so much hatred for the PS3? Because you’ve been spoiled.

To be quite frank, you need a time out. The previous PlayStation models fit well within your budget and had great launch titles to boot. Now the PS3 comes along and all of a sudden, you realize that you’re going to have to actually put in more than 15 hours a week at Burger King. You shouldn’t have to work more. I mean, the Nintendo Wii costs only $250! Why can’t the PS3 cost $300 with a free sports game?

Because the PS3 isn’t banking on the hopes that you’ll play a game where you drive a damned truck with a TV remote. No, the PS3 has a long future planned out for you. See, the Wii doesn’t output in high-def, it doesn’t come with a Blu-ray player, which alone would run you $500 plus and it doesn’t come with the power the PS3 packs.

When I got a PS3, I realized it didn’t have many good launch titles. In fact, all I wanted was Resistance: Fall of Man and Madden ‘07. Now what about the Wii or Xbox 360? The 360 I have no problems with. It’s the perfect console to buy right now and the console that anyone considering a next-gen system should purchase. But the Wii?

Sure, Zelda is great and all, but guess what: I don’t give a hoo-hoo about Link running through a forest for the 10th time trying to find some treasure or rescue Zelda. I’ve been done with that gaming concept since Ocarina of Time, thank you.

I know what you’re thinking right now. “This Nintendo-hating douche obviously hasn’t played the KILLER titles!” What killer titles would you be referring to? Surely you can’t mean the crap-tastic first-person shooters or the mindless games like Wario Ware or Wii Sports. Wii Sports can be fun, but going outside and playing two-hand touch football or boxing your friends after half a bottle of Jack is much more entertaining.

Back to the PlayStation 3, though. Resistance is a clutch game. Not only is the online play free, but for a launch title, it’s damn good. It reminds me of Halo Online set in a WWII era. And get this: the graphics are killer. Bet you had no idea, right? As for Madden, it’s a great game but it’s just Madden, so whatever. It’s good for when you and your buddies get drunk and want to scream at the TV while waiting for the pizza to get delivered.

I’m basically saying the Wii is a piece and you’re just too much of a fanboy to realize it. The PS3 is clearly the winner in the next-gen console war and it’s only a matter of time before all the good titles like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2 come out and blow your hands off like a two-dollar M80 firecracker. I’ve got Blu-ray, Wi-Fi, wireless controllers that don’t make me look like I’m going into convulsions when I use them, HD output and a 60GB hard drive to store all my porn on. So go ahead and have fun spending countless hours with Zelda. I’m popping some Prozac, calling off work and spending quality time with some real next-gen games. Happy Friday.

  • finally someone gets it right!

  • …..and, now you get up from your knees from slobbin Sony’s knob

  • ::wipes chin:: Sorry I was, uh, busy. What were you saying?

  • What we have here is a perfect example of why I read CrunchGear. You guys tell it like it is and pull no punches, no matter the consequences. Why people have to write articles defending the PS3 is beyond me–you people do know that it has Blu-ray, right? I mean, Blu-ray is the future! What does the Wii have? Some strange motion controller? If I want to flail about wildly, I’d watch that episode of Pokemon that gave kids seizures. Kudos to Vince for standing up to the rabid fanbois out there.

  • When the games shape up, who knows? As a teen all I know is that people want to be social with their games, they want to play Wii and look silly and have fun. Or they want to chainsaw someone in the face on 360. There just isn’t the killer ‘experience’ on the PS3 yet, that I’ve heard about in my peer-groups. Not to say it can’t come–it just doesn’t seem to be here yet. Instead it feels like a smooth and sleek display of wealth. Oh well.

  • Finially somebody that is honest to the facts. Xbox 360 has some great games right now, but the launch titles for 2007 PS3 looks pretty good.

    MGS4
    Killzone 2
    Warhawk
    Lair
    Heavenly Sword
    GT HD

  • Great article! I’m loving my PS3, 1080p looks frickin’ awesome on my 40″ Bravia, Resistance / Ridge Racer 7 / Untold Legends / Genji are great launch titles, Blu-ray movies frickin’ rocks, storing photos in widescreen is cool, visuals for playing music is cool… I’ve owned many consoles out there and PS3 is the most impressive console. I turn from a Dreamcast, then XBOX and now a Playstation fanboy. :-)

  • Wii and PS3 are really battling it out – for 2nd place.

  • This article is so over the top I can not accurately determine if it’s to be taken at face value or it’s utter farce. Seriously.

  • It’s not ‘over the top’ … but actually a pretty good summary of the console’s future. You get what you pay for, and this provides a platform for years.

  • DG, They are not battling for 2nd place. All 3 consoles are battling for 1st place and it is VERY urly to say who won the next gen console war…

  • nice, and check out this bit of news on Xbox360, MS is reducing their target shipment for June 2007…

    http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156734

  • I completely agree, Wii is just a novelty made for little school boys and girls and in a year it will be just like Virtua Boy was a useless gimic. Anybody who is serious about gaming would be much better off with PS3, 360 isn’t bad… but it is M$!

Once GOW 3, FF13, KZ2, and GT arrive we’ll see the true next gen winner.

  • Any piece that leads with “The PlayStation 3 Is The Best Console Ever” and its been available for less than half a year is entering the comedic space. Same for anyone saying the same for the Wii.

People are getting lost on specs that don’t amount to much. Blu-ray drive? I doubt it’ll make the actual games any better. Sure you can play movies with it, but as been stated many times in many places, if Blu-Ray doesnt come out on top in this HD-disc battle, you’re stuck with a useless box.

Granted, the Wii games are a visual train wreck, but they’re fun. I personally wouldn’t feel like a tard for buying a half-grand system that’s going to be obsolete in 5 years. Then again, I still get much joy from my Neo Geo set up, some maybe this entire post is lost on me.

  • sadly no
I hate the idea of comparing the PS# to the Wii. It’s simply not a proper comparison, it’s like comparing a scooter to a Ferrari. The Wii is aiming for fun, the PS3 is aiming for what Sony always aims for (and usually fails at) which is a total lock down of all electronic entertainment in your living room.

Also some of the things you say are just plain wrong.. What launch titles for the PS2 where good? The Bouncer? And the idea that we’re all just whining at the price point smacks of geek elitism.. You’re really saying that $599 is a good deal? Why? Because it has a blu-ray player? Great you can now watch the Fifth element.

I have no doubt that the PS3 will eventually outsell the Wii and the 360. But that really doesn’t matter. In the end, They will have a less dominate share of the market than they have had in previous generations. It’s now a slow trickle until their dominance is no more.

  • Now that your done putting down Nintendo tell me whats so good about PS3 now?I own all three system and my PS3 has been sitting collecting dust for about a month now. I play my 360 and Wii about the same amount of time. I will admit PS3 looks a little better than 360 but that is it, and I do mean a little.actually it pisses me off that sony forces you to buy blue ray when it’s not even a for sure thing that it’s going to take off yet. The fact of the matter is is that is sony’s plan for getting blue ray established is to force you to buy it. I standard dvd has more than enough room for any games that will run on the 360 or ps3. And if you don’t have an hdtv your just paying extra for the blue ray player thay put in the ps3 and you’ll never even need it. and of coure they have a long life planned for the ps3 because they put so much money into it they can’t afford to start work on another console yet which ms already has. and you can bet your bottom dollar that both ms and sony will be putting motion sensing controller or some other contraption on there next systems. Thats assuming sony will still be there. And before you try to make any cracks at my spelling or grammer. you know you get the point, and thats not what we’re here to talk about.

  • first of all everyone of you that keeps saying that the 600 billion dollar PS3 is worth it because of Blu-ray alone, is falling in the trap that Sony is hoping for. I don’t see why anyone wants blu-ray, since when do people want to pay 40 dollars for a DVD because oh.. it’s blu-ray. You can by a decent laptop for 3000 dollars because it has a godly blu-ray player. Personally I hope blu-ray dies, because it’s just an overpriced medium to watch porn on. I hope it’s worth it porn freaks. oh and the tv remote may be stupid, but props to Nintendo for trying something new.

  • amen Mike… well said.

  • You know… You’re actually quite right about the overall technical prowess and future promise of the PS3. Sure, right now the Wii is a little fun toy, the Xbox 360 has a more well rounded online experience, but the PS3 has some pretty nifty toys of its own, like a library of over 7000 compatible games, and a Blu-ray player, and HDMI output, and 60GB of storage… and Resistance wasn’t a bad game either. Certainly no worse than the best launch titles for the Xbox 360.

Now all we need are some MORE good console-exclusive titles from Sony, and it’ll make my day. For now, back to Lost Planet.

  • blu-ray sucks… it’s too expensive, and for what? Sony just wants the monopoly. blu-ray can go to hell

  • the whole force fed blu ray thing itself makes it NOT the best console ever. If they did it at a pricepoint that was attractive maybe, but no.

  • Ha ! “Serious about gaming” ! Why don’t you fanboys start realizing that Nofriendo isn’t trying to be king ! There is plently of profit to be made for all three consoles. My friends at EA get to play on all three, and for many of them there’s alot more excitment about the FUN to be had with the wii for all age groups, not just 24/7 gaming freaks.

  • Nofriendo…lol nice one.

As for hating on Blu-Ray, get a decent HDTV after you work a couple more months at Burger King and you’ll see why having Blu-Ray around is nice.

Oh and PS3 is the best.

  • Ok, Sony is the best. Just leave it like that, but one thing is that the price could have at least gone down some, just how they cut the prices in Japan. But Japan is the motherland of Sony. Now, Microsoft’s Xbox360 is good, but just another upgrade, they can’t pull anything out of their ass; wow HD… oh its only 720. Its basically got pimp out, the cheap way. The only good game is Halo, and to me it isn’t that great. Gears of War is just like a mix of Tom Clancy and Halo. WOW, duck and roll… wait, theres shooting in this game? Microsoft’s OS sucks, that got worms coming out their ass. Now, they go make a Xbox… WTF. They need to stop trying to claim territory that isn’t theirs. The Wii, on the other hand, is an interesting system. But, they could have made it better, but they sold it to the right group of people.

  • Is this meant as parody, or are you serious?

  • Wow, at first I thought this was a joke too because it’s so ridiculous. Let’s see, independent game sites have said the 360 has the same or better graphics and game play than the PS3. So not sure if anyone still thinks the PS3 is a better gaming machine.

And BluRay is an attempt to force a high-capacity data medium years before it’s required. DVDs work fine for all other game consoles, PCs (which have higher graphics than the PS3 or 360), and movies. For the next few years DVDs will be fine – the resolution is excellent on my 60-inch HDTV for movies and excellent when I play the 360. Maybe people just need better TVs or glasses?

Sony shoved BluRay on consumers. Why? Because they actually want to use the PS3 as a tool to further their market share in other areas. And it’s not just BluRay, they need the PS3 to sell so they can push into online media sales too. In fact one of the things they introduced in Japan is a credit card reader. Niiice, it really is an all-in-one device. Makes it much easier to get your money too.

They banked on the PS2s popularity to sell the PS3 at a ridiculous price with hardware you didn’t need right now. And you see a lot of fanatical Sony fans lining up to shell out $600+ who don’t have the sense to realize Sony’s screwing them. Could have been worse, we might have had to pay the $780 US they’re paying for it in Europe and Australia.

  • Someone can’t afford a Blu-Ray playerrrrrr boooooo hooooooooo :P

  • PS3 is just too expensive for regular consumers especially for young gamers. No doubt it is great for game fanatics who either have their own income or have filthy rich parents. In two words, PS3 is for a niche market.

On the other hand, Nintendo is for the general public. Children love Nintendo. We have a PS2 and a Nintendo DS in the house, my kids seldom touch the PS2 after they got the DS. Its appeal to children is so lop-sided that you won’t know unless you have children in your house.

I totally agree that the BluRay thing is spoonfeeding down your throat. The game console does not need BluRay. Sony just wants to get a competitive edge against HD-DVD in the movie sector. To play fair, they should sell BluRay DVD players at a competitive price instead of asking all PS3 gamers to subsidize this market share race. Sony seems to be well prepared this time after the Beta-Max loss. They position themselves into Columbia Studios and control a number of movie title production. Even if other movie studios refuse to jump on board, they have critical mass to survive for a while on its own. Of course, forcing the PS3 gamers to buy BluRay is an attempt to flood the market with BluRay players which does not help the gamers but the movie buyers.

Afterall, their strategy is not working too well. The console sales figure shows that. The news report said even PS2 outsell PS3 in the holiday season. How ironic! How many diehard fanboys out there to support this expensive console? If they didn’t have a supply problem around Xmas, the holiday gift buying rush might have helped them a little. But they missed the window. When will be the next rush? I think people are more likely to buy roses instead of PS3 on Valentine’s day. And the next Xmas is so far away.

Sony gets an A for what they plan to do, but gets an F in execution. Perhaps the parts suppliers were responsible for the failure.

They basically missed the boat in avoiding the Beta-Max problem repeating itself and that will hurt them for a long time to come. I am selling short on SONY stock.

  • The 360 will win the war, I’ll bank on it.

  • Agreed. 360 did way better, and…hey I’m a Nintendo fanboy (Go Wii!)

  • dont cry,u know what sucks (anything bill gates touches it sucks)first make the window os work better than try to win the video game market.microsoft tries to win playstation on the game market.its like trying to win apple ipod with zune.
    ps3 rocks.

  • Can’t wait to play red faction on ps3, dudes, ha,ha, ha, yeah.

  • Yeah, 2 write, im gonna buy the ps3, sick and tied of playing COD2, geez l hope halo3 better than 2, because 2 sucked, sheeeeeeet.

  • I don’t buy consoles for playing games, i buy em because i like having alot of useless shit lying around, i even went out and bought the slimline because it was small, i really like it because it’s small and neet looking, sometimes i just stare at it thinking about how nice it is.

  • “like a library of over 7000 compatible games”

Too bad a large portion of the good ones look worse on the PS3 ’cause the scaler Sony’s using apparently can’t scale interlaced resolutions correctly. Way to go Sony, seriously.

  • After hooking up the ps2 to my new hdtv – I gotta wonder about the PS3. If Sony can get the scaler to work correctly then it would be worth the upgrade. I didn’t spring for a hd-dvd player or a blu-ray player yet – just a decent upconverting dvd player. And we (my husband and I) do own a Wii – and it’s fun, for a bit. The wi-fi in it sucks horribly! My PSP has no trouble finding our network but the Wii just can’t seem to stay connected. I think it will be a year or so before we seriously consider purchasing a PS3 – when there are more games and hopefully some bugs have been squashed.

  • sony fixed that problem blake…..

  • PS3 WILL WIN OR SHALL I SAY HAS WON THE SEVENTH GENERATION CONSOLE WAR.

  • PS3 ROCKS MY SOCKS !

  • its really your own choice in what u think is the best console. The xbox 360 or ps3 the wii unfortunatley isnt in this because its just shit its for 10 year olds who come back from school after having a bad day in detention ;)

  • c’mon… nobody will buy the PS3 at that prince… it’s proved.
Xbox 360 is way better, you get the same graphics paying half price

  • Go to fucking hell you god damn ass fuck. I got a Wii cause I am 14 years old, don’t play that much, and don’t have a goddamn job. Jesus, not all gamers are fucking 30 year olds who live with their mom. You of all losers should have thought of that

  • Don’t be hating guys…
“Grab whatever flows your boat” as one gamer said way before these three consoles came out. Everybody have different taste and opinion so respect theirs even they don’t respect yours.

And dwalk51, there are kids who are younger than you but still have a goddamn job because their family suffers from financial problems. And how would you know that not all gamers are 30 year olds who live with their mother? Maybe you could be one in next 16 years! So be quiet and go play your Wii if all you are gonna do is being a ignorant kid who’s comment is nothing more than a piece of garbage with no value of being a opinion at all. Jesus, share some love will ya? You should’ve though of that.

  • Sorry if this is double posted, my first one didn’t appear to work, possibly because of the URLS below.

Quoting Vince Veneziani “Someone can’t afford a Blu-Ray playerrrrrr boooooo hooooooooo”
    ====================================================

Someone doesn’t need one, and someone definitely doesn’t want one, foo. My 360 has better graphics and game play than the PS3 for half the price, better titles, better online play, higher quality components (the 360 controllers are much better and sturdier than the PS3s), and a much larger library. And that’s what I bought it for, games. When I want or need a high-def movie player I’ll start shopping around – in 2 or 3 YEARS. You make a good point though, get a PS3 if you want a BluRay high-def movie player. If you want the better gaming machine at a lower price get a 360. Or get a Wii60 for the same price as a PS3. When I find a Wii that’s what I’m doing. But whatever you do avoid the Sony hype. Oh, and here’s a few links to back up my talk (you’ll have to cut-n-paste urls).

Here’s a few links also showing how the talk of the PS3 selling well is crap. They may have shipped a lot, but there are hundreds of thousands on shelves. In short, Sony is now overshipping because demand has washed up. And developers are feeling the pinch…

  • The PlayStation 3 is the greatest console ever made. Ever. Is it too early to make that statement? No. The PlayStation 3 is the greatest console ever made.
“Yeah, but what about the Xbox 360?” What about it? If the 360 was so great, and going to win the console war hands down, why isn’t it flying off store shelves? Why is Microsoft lowering their target numbers for 2007 and posting losses for 2006? How was the PlayStation 3 able to surpass the number of Xbox 360’s sold in japan in three days? Because the Xbox 360 is not going to win the console wars. The reason why people aren’t buying the 360 in droves is simple: they’re waiting. They’re waiting for the PlayStation 3’s price to drop. They’re waiting for more game to come out. Or, if they live in Europe or Australia, they’re simply waiting for the PlayStation 3 to become available. Once these things happen, the PlayStation 3 will clearly lead the Xbox 360.
As for the Wii, I’ve bought two of them so far, and I play it every weekend religiously. I love it. It’s fun. But there’s one word in particular that can be used to accurately describe th Wii and it’s future: gimmick. You might assume that I’m hating on the Wii, but I’m not. It’s fun. It’s cheap. It does everything it promises to do. But feature-wise, it’s bare bones, and doesn’t offer any added value to someone who has invested in HiDef equipment, or would simply like an added DVD player. And it’s control scheme is flawed. Severely. I mean, think about it: how many times have you been playing Wii Sports, and the controller did something you didn’t intend for it to do (or not do something you wanted it to do)? In tennis, it registers swings that aren’t thrown, or in boxing, it fails to register accurate punches no matter how hard you throw your arms. This happens, without fail, at least three times any time I play it. Now imagine you’re playing a game that requires extreme precision, such as Tetris. Should be simple, right? It would never happen. The inaccuracy would defeat the entire purpose of playing. Control-wise, you’re fucked. And developers know this. The Wii won’t get the games that are released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it’ll get gimmicky versions of those games (like SSX Blur). The Wii delivers on the goods fun-wise, but it’s really just a compliment to another console; only children will be satisfied with just a Wii. Only one console has the staying power, and processing power, to outlast it’s competitors. PlayStation 3. Best. Console. Ever.

  • jtyson, there is very little logic in your post. A little, but not much. Mainly it’s fanatical ranting for Sony. The PS3 beat the 360 in Japan because it’s always been a PS territory. The PS3 was expected to win it. Take a second and read the articles I linked to. Read, learn, it’s good for you. In the US analysts think the big PS3 sales number may have been pushed up by all the wannabe scalpers. Some people got their hands on several PS3s just to find that 6 weeks after the launch they couldn’t sell them on eBay for a profit. And now analysts think the sales numbers might be lower than stated because those same wannabe scalpers are returning the PS3s. Again, read the articles and learn.

And do you even have one? Or are you like the other Sony fanatics that I debate with that scream the PS3 is the greatest (Why? Ummm, BECAUSE! Hey, nice argument), and when I ask if they have one they answer, “No, I’m waiting for [SELECT ONE: Price drop, more games, killer title]“. Greaaat. With fans like you Sony will be the next Sega.

  • Yeah im 39 and play games and still live with my parents, you got a fucking problem with that little kid asshole.

  • Have any of you guys played stay alive.
