Canon Prepping 22-Megapixel EOS-1Ds Mark III
by Blake Robinson on February 1, 2007

I’m a big fan of Canon cameras (I use an EOS-30D) and this appears to be the biggest thing they have coming: the EOS-1Ds Mark III. Featuring 22-megapixels of oh so unnecessary picturing takin’ beauty, The Mark III is set to oust the Mark II as the top rig at Canon camp. They’re also saying the Mark III will be half the size of its predecessor, making it much more versatile.

Don’t salivate too much just yet, the Mark III won’t be officially announced until the PhotoPlus Expo 2007 in October. No other information is currently available.

  • … but will it produce better pictures… that’s the real question. Will have to wait till October.

  • Better than what? The 1DsMKII does a damn good job now. I might upgrade if it has more than just more megapixel. To move from 16.7 to 22 is not that big enough of a jump.

  • I’ve got a 20D, and it’s more than good enough for me right now. I’ll wait until Canon starts releasing 22MP cameras in the $1500-$3000 price range.

  • I’m with Jeff all the way! Some of us are photographers AND starving artists! When the price becomes more reasonable, I’ll buy one!

  • Id like to know more about this new pic taking machine.they say 22mp.Well iv been reading up on the new ones and all I hear is its going to be a 10.1mp.I have the 30d right now and looking to get a full senser cam with lots of MP. Was going to go with the markII.but you say 22mp ill just have to see.and my cash is doing good in the bank.

  • Hello Matt,

Canon EOS 1D Mark III is not the same as Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III.

Canon EOS 1D Mark III is already on sale with 10.1mp. No full frame sensor.

The Canon EOSs 1D Mark III will be a full frame sensor.. just like the predecessor, Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II

  • This is going to be a wild hog
