Grizzly Man in Financial Ruin, Selling Halo Suit
  • 18 Comments
by Blake Robinson on February 6, 2007

Troy Hurtubise, famous for his bear-proof suits, recently made headlines for developing a Halo-inspired anti-ballistic suit. After spending $15,000 and several years developing the suit, Hurtubise had hoped to sell the design to some military hoping to protect its troops in hostile situations. Suit features include a head-guided laser pointer, the whole bullet deflection thing and a handy cock-clock (shown in video).

All indications from the initial clamor about the suit seemed to suggest that he would indeed find a buyer. Unfortunately for, Hurtubise, he failed to get a single offer.

Now facing financial ruin, Grizzly Man Troy was forced to put the Halo suit, dubbed the Trojan, up for sale on Ebay. The auction is currently sitting at $1,000 with no bids. So if you think you might need an anti-ballistic suit, here’s your chance to get one on the cheap and, you know, help feed his family.

  • Atleast somebody is doing something with their live in this world. Lots of respect to that guy

  • Needed… yes… will become available… no… why? Politics. If politicians actually cared about the lives of their soldiers, they wouldn’t send them to work everyday in a meat grinder without any purpose nor way out other then dying. If there was a rule that any politician who sent people to war would have to LEAD their soldiers on the battlefield – the world would be a very peaceful place.

Hats off Troy, I wish him the best of luck – its sad to see a genius go through hard times due to the arrogance and ignorance of others in power. I bet the Pentagon didn’t go for it because they didn’t invent it and worse, would have hurt the bottom line of one of their subcontractors. I wish I had the money laying around, I would love to fund this guy to keep working on his ideas without having to worry about hydro or putting food on the table.

    Jon

  • wow, thats the most sorry man i’ve seen in on earth. The last two comentors are complete idiots, dont even know a thing about what the govt does. They spend millions on better body armor and equipment for troops. so you expect some insane guy that developed Bear suits to actually be able to sell something like that to the US Army? What are you little kids? A genius? Look things up a bit. This guys a laughing stock.

    • are you sure you know how governments work? this guy said that he could mass produce this suit for $2000 a unit! thats less than what they currently spend on equipment for each soldier

  • Hmmm….this is the same dude who developed Fire Paste, a radical compound which dissipates heat like nothing ever seen. I saw the suit in action on Daily Planet on the Discovery Channel only a couple weeks ago….and it’s a shame that it came down to that.

Perhaps he should sell his idea to one of the said sub-contractors, as they’re the ones making the stuff afterall.

  • I can’t believe this idiot. As for the first 2 comments, you boys are idiots. The Us Amry already spent millions on developing an actualy System. Stop thinking the army as a video game. You think troops would actually be able to move well enough in that piece of crap?

    • wtf, that piece of shit u call “an actual system” is even worse than the british armor – u prick

ok so the suit this guys has made doesn’t look the best i agree – but it is still a prototype, it can be worked on

i respect Troy for putting so much effort and money 2 get it finished, at least if he doesnt sell it, he’ll b alright in a gun fight lol

  • Jake go fuck yourself, fag

  • The man is trying to save lives…
He has devoted his life to saving lives…
How can anyone speak badly about that?

True, the design does look like a video game BUT, if it is as light as he says it is with the ballistic capabilities he says it has then I would much rather wear that on a convoy than the 40 pounds of armor that I wear now. As it stands, when a soldier is deployed, his face, neck, arms, groin, legs, and feet are exposed. That is a lot of possible severed arteries.

It might be too bulky for the infantry and Airborne troops but for convoy or sentry duty…I’d buy it if I would be allowed to wear it. I’d have to give it a Desert tan paint job though.

    • im with you it is good to save lives and besides, if that can take a hit from a black bear and you get up like nothing happened, keep the blessed thing! if it can take that much punishment and it is bullet proof, I’d buy it and let him keep it if i could. besides, the army has cheap cloth. yeah lets see the army hmm not much protection there and I agree with you Leuico.

  • It really is incredible the opportunity any army had to become at least twice the strength they are now, could of even brought peace to the world at last, it makes me almost furious in a sense that such an idea could of gone to waste, and by the way, i’ve seen this thing move, it’s stunning how easy to move in it it is, baring in mind this guys an inventor, not a soldier so his levels of physical fitness wouldn’t exactly be peak and he still moves pretty dam good in it.

I have the utmost respect for this guy.

  • The current IBA handles NJIS Level IV threats to plates and Level IIIa threats to the soft carrier. Moreover, it’s been subjected to military testing that goes beyond the NJIS. Meanwhile, there’s no indication that the Trojan has even been subjected to NJIS testing to even claim Level III threat protection to its plates or any level of threat to its soft carrier.

No testing = No proof of protection

  • C’mon guys you say stuff that its bad but what are you doing to improve our world, Imean c’mon something is better than nothing right!!

  • Jake’s a retard.

  • i think it is avery good idea and i see it on the field very soon

  • troy is it still 4 sale?

  • Chris Greeydelinarez - November 7th, 2007 at 5:40 pm GMT+5

I am going to be straight… I will Buy it!! Only problem is I’dont know the site or phone number, so I can buy it. If it cost’s between 2,000 to 100,000 I will pay it. This is no lie. I would really like it if someone can tell me where I can get this. This was the GREATIST Idea I have ever seen. This guy has what you call; a gift for coming up with this. Thanks, for helping me if you helped me. Troy Hurtubise you are doing a great thing here always follow your dreams.
