I Told You So: Blu-Ray Edition

As I predicted about 14 million times in the past, Blu-Ray has overtaken HD-DVD on a number of levels. Sony has released reports that show the following:

  • Blu-ray has surpassed HD-DVD in cumulative sales

  • Blu-ray titles outsold HD-DVD titles by more than a two-to-one margin during the first week of January (47.14 HD DVD titles for every 100 Blu-ray titles)

  • Blu-ray titles outsold HD-DVD titles closer to three-to-one during the second week of the month (38.36 HD-DVD titles for every 100 Blu-ray titles)
The catalyst that drove up Blu-Ray sales? The Playstation 3. Looks like Sony might be playing its game right after all. Wait until the end of 2007 and you’ll see a huge increase in Playstation 3 and Blu-Ray sales. You heard it here first, remember that.

    • you are soo asking for it… :)

    • Personally I’m rooting for HDDVD but honestly I don’t care as long as one format wins by an overwhelming majority.

    • Hmm… i don’t remember betamax ever outselling VHS. Didn’t alot of people compared this to that? Where are you guys now? What’s your argument now? Being a computer user and I know alot of you guys have computers, having more storage is better. 4 layer 100GB disk have already been tested with 200GB disk in the works. With the size of digital media these days that’s important.

    • I said it before, and I’ll keep saying it, does anybody distinguish between BluRay games and BluRay movies? Yes, maybe in raw numbers BlulRay is outselling HD-DVD (just wait until porn starts rolling out on HD-DVD!), but what if a major portion of that is just games? BluRay might easily turn into a game-only format, while HD-DVD will prevail as a movie format. Anybody thought about that? Take note that I said it first ;-)

    • I’ll take the 50GB over 30GB any day. Why would anyone want less storage for the same price? Am I stupid?

    • well, Huckleberry to answer your question, yes you are stupid. to think that storage means everthing, well that makes you dumb. Just look at the facts: blu-ray has more advantage on storage, but hd dvd has more advantage on what it’s meant to do…Provide hd content! Thats the point of the new formats, not storage.
