Windows Mobile 6 (Officially) Announced
by Blake Robinson on February 7, 2007

Alright, this shouldn’t be new to anyone who reads the site regularly, but Windows Mobile 6 is coming. We’ve already reported tons of information on Crossbow, but today there is a little more. Namely by the way of an official announcement:

As we mentioned last week, WinMo 6 will come in three version: Professional for touchscreens, Standard for smartphones and Classic for Pocket PC.

We now know some of the features that the new mobile OS will tout:

  • HTML email support
  • Windows Live for WinMo
  • File transfers with Live Messenger
  • New mobile Office programs
  • Vista integration
  • Calendar ribbon for convenient scheduling

In addition to these functional additions, the WinMo 6 will feature .NET Compact Framework and SQL Server. Perhaps most interesting of all, however, is a new capability that allows users to wipe data and functionality from lost devices.

Windows Mobile 6 will be on display next week at 3GSM, so expect our befuddled editor John Biggs to have a full report from the ground.
