We are finishing our basement and want to put in surround sound, however the area is a little challenging. The seating will be slightly off to the side from the center speaker and the seating is in a corner of the room. I can't get the rear/side speakers behind the seating area because of the corner. Can I still get good sound quality anyway, maybe by aiming the side speakers toward the middle corner of the seating area? NOTE: Seating will be along two walls and come together in the corner, if you got the picture.

i have a room that has more than one function, where I want to isolate one half as an entertainment room. as a result i do not have all the walls that I need to hang speakers(i get three one in front, one to the right and one in back). will it effect the quality of sound if I hang it from the ceiling? or are there any other suggestions?

Nice guide.
If I might add a few points:
The concept of "1000w in a studio" isn't really correct. You always want headroom and don't want to run out of power when trying to build a system. Having a sub that extends below 20hz, super efficient horns, etc doesn't necessarily mean you will be blasting them at full capability, but they will sound better being driven at a lower rate regardless. And 1000w in a $200 sony receiver does not equal 1000w from a Krell pre/pro for example.

Another mistake people make when wiring speakers, as seen in the pic provided in the guide, is to leave the wires not tightly twisted together and frayed apart. This is a surefire way to short connectors and if you don't have a protection circuit in your equipment.. well sucks. Twist tight or use connectors like spades or bananas.

Nice rec on the analog meter, the digital one sucks.
