 has chosed MediaFLO to roll out its mobile TV service. MediaFLO is a subsidiary of QUALCOMM, the all-caps wireless infrastructure and chip manufacturer. The deal means that the Q can put its TV transceivers on AT&T’s wireless access towers, sending live TV to compatible handsets on the AT&T network (if the user has paid the applicable monthly fee, of course).</p>
<p>QUALCOMM has been testing MediaFLO with Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile, and is looking to be well situated as the go-to provider for mobile digital TV for handsets. No roll-out dates are provided yet, but a launch sometime in late summer or early fall seems likely. Look for handsets from Samsung and LG to support the service first, with other manufacturers coming on board as the service matures to include streaming text news and sports scores.</p>
