Bill Gates Likes To Lie About Vista

Earlier today, Bill Gates went on the Vista offensive saying that the new OS has been “well received.” That’s funny, I could have sworn earlier in the week, CEO Steve Ballmer was flipping out over piracy and slow Vista sales. Gates says PC manufacturers have embraced Vista and it’s currently helping boost sales for companies. True, but what about regular, off-the-shelf sales? Is Gates nervous about the future of Windows? Here’s what he said to Reuters:
Asked by Reuters if there was anything that would make Microsoft cautious about the outlook for Vista, Gates replied: “I don’t know what you mean. Vista’s had an incredible reception.”
Denial! C’mon Billy Boy, you know things suck in the land of Vista. Just admit it and we’ll be on our way.
Windows Vista well received: Gates [Reuters]

Slow sales and piracy have nothing to do with a product being well received. People WILL adopt this operating system slower than in the past because of hardware requirements.
You sound like a mac fan boy writing nonsense like this.

A simpleminded and typically uninformed one as well. For one, most sales were always going to come from people buying new PCs anyway and though I’d agree that Vista isn’t flying off the shelves the truth is that Win95 was really the only version of windows that did so right out of the gate. Even today the picture isn’t as crystal clear “sucks” as you make it out to be.

The strange thing is that business customers are buying it which is the exact opposite of how XP played out. For those with short memories let us recall the days of slow XP sales when, even years after launch, there just “wasn’t enough in it” to justify buying…

“Windows 98, Windows Me and Windows 2000, for example, failed to spark upgrade fever. Windows 2000, in particular, has been adopted at a slower rate than expected.”
Those were the days when things sure sucked in the land of Windows. I wonder how that turned out?

Posts like this make me question why I visit this site. I guess the affiliation with TechCrunch is what brought me here, but I’m not seeing much to keep me coming back.

Elliott got it right, sales and reception are two different pairs of shoes, as they say. Do you honestly believe the richest man in the world cries a tear because sales are going slow? For a company of Microsoft’s proportions “slow sales” means that they will only have $500 Million instead of $1 Billion revenue anyway. It’s not like the product is pulling another PS3 or something like that.
Plus, as long as there is piracy Billie’s #1 goal will remain on course: Total dominance of the world’s PC market. He was the one who said in interviews that his vision is having Windows on every single PC around the world, and in the big picture it does not make a dent if some (or a whole country of, go Romania!) installations are not-so-legal.
Last but not least, with every single incarnation of Microsoft Windows you see the same dance, early adopters who say it’s great, early adopters who say it sucks, people who believe they HAVE to say it sucks just because they don’t like Microsoft, and then those of course who say it sucks but secretly wish it would run better on their Intel Macs (right, Vince). It was the same with Windows XP when it came out, and Windows 2000 before that, and every other Windows before that. Grow up people, and get something else to do!

Hmmm, slow sales, very demanding hardware requirements, draconian DRM checks, Genuine Windows Advantage?, missing print drivers, cooperation with NSA on encryption ( NSA is a SPY agency ), very high prices, and very little bang for the buck.
Vista is well received? I am a Chief of IT, and I have yet to see any one adopt this OS.
Actually, maybe I DO agree with Bill. “Vista’s had an incredible reception.”
Incredible - Beyond belief or understanding ( this does not necessarily equate with good ).

Thank you for informing us the NSA is a spy agency. But when you spread FUD like this that didn’t even fly over on Slashdot one can only conclude that you are “Chief of IT” in your bedroom.

As a commentor there notes:
“A cursory glance at the article would reveal that the spooks also work with Apple and that Novel also works with “somebody” in the govt.”
From the actual Washington Post article:
Other software makers have turned to government agencies for security advice, including Apple, which makes the Mac OS X operating system. “We work with a number of U.S. government agencies on Mac OS X security and collaborated with the NSA on the Mac OS X security configuration guide,” said Apple spokesman Anuj Nayar in an e-mail.
The also provide tools for Linux distros:

I also hope you don’t have XP or Windows Server 2003 running anywhere in your ops since they did the same thing with those.

How does the saying go, Lier Lier Pants on Fire. I’m sure some people love Windows Vista but I’m yet to meet someone who does. It’s hardly made a ripple.

I think one of the observations that has been overlooked in this matter is that Vista may be experiencing an incredible reception at the enterprise. Most large corporations are Windows shops and historically the enterprise doesn’t upgrade an OS until the release of Service Pack 1, which is expected at the end of this year. However, Microsoft and its partners are likely already entrenched in discussions with CIOs, IT Managers and Purchasing departments regarding the product and the appropriate upgrade path for the organization. Coupled with the need for higher-end hardware, its likely to be 18 to 24 months before the full impact of Vista sales performance can be truly gauged. Considering the vast majority of Microsoft’s revenue stream comes from the enterprise, I think its rather naive and premature to make such a loaded statement with consideration to consumer off-the-shelf sales.
Its great to be a fan of a particular brand and to applaud its merits. But when you specifically target an opposing brand and berate its offering without all the facts and based on your “own” opinion, you risk jeopardizing the credibility of CG and disenfranchising a big segment of your audience (i.e. Windows users). Sorry, but I found this post to be pretty lacking in substance and weighed down with an editor’s own value system. Ironically, I use and manage Macs, Window PCs and a RH Linux server. I just believe that we need to keep to the playing field fair for all.

Say whatever you want about Vista, but everyone know that sooner or later billions and billions of computers will be running it. Seeing that over 90% of home computers run Windows and over 90% of business computers run Windows and over 90% of servers run Windows it is certain that one day over 90% of the world will be running Vista, Vista Home, Vista Office, Vista Server, Vista for ATMs, Vista for Mr. Coffee.
Then Microsoft will release a new OS and it will start all over again.
David Blomstrom (Who am I?)

No, it’s not at all certain that 90% of the world will be running Vista. What IS sure is that Vista will help drive more intelligent people to Mac or Linux. Frankly, I think Bill Gates may even give the word Vista a new definition:
1. Proper Noun - The last operating system released by Microsoft before it became the world’s third largest software manufacturer
2. Verb - To screw yourself by doing something incredibly stupid
Combine Vista with Zune, and you have an even bigger joke. No wonder poor Bill Gates is coming unhinged, making an ass out of himself on TV and blatantly lying about Vista. This is even making it easier for people to understand the truth about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation - it’s a fraud, too.

Baltwade you know what… you’re right.
I’m a Mac fan and even I know you’re right.
But before I ever picked up a Mac I was realist - I realize it’s an OS, not a religious platform.
David Blomstrom you do look a little foolish because whatever way you look at it…90:10, 9:1, 90% vs 10%, 90pts vs 10pts. The larger of those two numbers is not competing with the smaller. It’s not. Sorry. Bill Gates and Microsoft WIN! Apple will be forever playing catchup. Sorry, but barring some catastrophic upheaval (and Vista is not it), Mac will always come in second to the PC.
What does “2nd” mean? Well… If $$$ is the bottom line…uh Mac is a distant, distant second.
If # of household users is the bottom line…uh Mac is second only because there’s two in the competition and 2nd has to be awarded to someone.
If # of business users is the bottom line…hee hee come on, this is just ridiculous. I feel like I’m still trying to convince and idiot Republican the war is WRONG!
If lowest cost per item is the bottom line. Mac you lose.
BUT!!! If stable OS is what 1st and 2nd place wager on, well… Mac you get the big prize. But isn’t that like saying - yeah Mom we lost, but but we actually had the better team? Or we lost but gosh we sure should’ve won. Coulda, shoulda, woulda go sit down.
I own a Mac. I’m writing this on a Mac. I love the Mac. I know it’s good. But I’m a liberal realist. Or Oxymoron for short. LOL!
David B don’t be upset. You’re not the only one with your head in the sand and a hole in the butt of your pants. Once you brush the crap from your eyes, you’ll see the idiot Vince who wrote this Bill Gates article is right along side you.

MacIt wrote, “Apple will be forever playing catchup. Sorry, but barring some catastrophic upheaval (and Vista is not it), Mac will always come in second to the PC.”
So it’s simply impossible for anyone but Microsoft to be number one, eh? Frankly, you sound like a Microsoft whore.
In fact, there are two ways for Apple to win - continuing erosion of Microsoft’s market share and the cataclysm you alluded to. A combination of the two would be really cool. :)
Apple’s revenue has already increased dramatically in recent years. In the meantime, Vista may indeed qualify as a catastrophe. Combined with the aptly named Zune, it has certainly been a public relations nightmare for Microsoft.
Check out the discussions on technical forums, like SitePoint.com. I’ve never seen Bill Gates & Co. take such a beating. The new Macintels are becoming a fad among web designers.
But the popular media is also dumping on Gates, influencing the opinions of millions of computer uers. People used to accept Microsoft’s faults because they didn’t know there were alternatives; they thought that computers and viruses just went hand in hand. Now they’ve been shown a new vision, and it ain’t Bill Gates’ Road Ahead.
So once you mend the hole in your pants, ask Bill Gates if he’ll still pay you the $50 he promised you to make your futile post. (You do know about Microsoft paying for sanitized articles on Wikipedia, don’t you? Seems like Mr. Gates just has a natural talent for bungling public relations. LOL)

Oh Davie Boy you wrote all of the predictions (i.e. prophesizing) above and guess what…
Mac is still in a distant insignificant second place and we’re still losing in Iraq. Spin it any way you want - YOU LOSE! LMAO
Microsoft realized the world consisted of more than just the good old USA and capitalized on it. They win. Apple loses. It’s just fact. Sorry. Still won’t stop me from buying the Mac, but I’m not going to put down Gates or PCs just to feel good about my purchase like you do. Just shutup. Stop worrying about my OS, and his OS, and her OS. Go sit down. Enjoy your computer. Stop worring about who has what share of the market. Bill Gates hasn’t spent a second worrying about you, so why are you so riled up over him? Get a life evangalist there’s a lot going on beyond your computer screen.
BTW - GOOGLE has more of a chance of competing against Microsoft than Apple. Google and only Google is the only competitor Microsoft has EVER been concerned about. Why? Because Google gets that the world is BIGGER THAN THE USA!
OBTW - The world is not intuned to whatever site you mentioned. They’re tuned into their wallets moron, their accessibility moron. AND THAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE WHEN IT COMES TO MAC VS PC.
Love,
Whore (mua mua mua)
Oh yeah - wake me when all your prophesizing comes true. LMAO Should be when the locust sworm in. ROFLMAO

I really don’t appreciate comments that indicate “the smart users will see vista for what it is and switch to Mac or Linux.” I would like to consider myself a rationale, intelligent person. I installed vista on my laptop and have had no problems with it at all. In fact, I must be one of the few idiots out there that like it. I also love my Mac Powerbook, but like vista, each has its own limitations. Different strokes for different folks.
So hows about giving some of us some credit here people. This is a subjective choice, and if you hate MS fine, but don’t call me stupid because I have a different opinion.

Vista DOES suck,
Ok it might look pretty, thats about it.
It is SLOW, heres an example on a brand new laptop from Acer which was supplied with Vista and had two gigs of ram fitted.
At the time this laptop had 15 mins of battery power left.
Step 1) Plug in external USB powered 2.5 inch drive.
Step 2) Wait an exceedingly long time.
Step 3) System comes up with new hardware found.
Step 4) Wait an exceedingly long time.
Step 5) Message comes up - hardware is ready to use.
Step 6) Attempt to access drive, wait exceedingly long time, run out of battery lap top dies, !! VISTA SUX !!
Step 7) Run up same external drive, on windows XP, 1st time its been put on this machine, drive ready an accessed in 12 seconds.
Results XP is very stable and very fast, why use the cludgy pile of gunk called Vista? I know - so M$Soft can make more $$$’S.
If windows XP gets dropped ill go to one of the linux distros as opposed to using this pile of !@#!$ I would say sh!t but I think that would be demeaning to sh!t.
If you like Vista then good luck to you, personaly im not ready to tripple my system capabilities to have it run like dos 3.3 on an 8086.

I used Vista for a few months and then dumped it. It wasn’t ready to be released. I don’t hate Microsoft but I despise Bill Gates and no confidence that Microsoft will be able to fix all that is wrong with Vista under his “leadership”…

Are we forgetting that Microsoft is a primarily a software company and Apple is primarily a hardware company. Yes, there will always be more PCs than Macs. There will always be more Fords than Ferraris, too. The quantity of PCs is irrelevant to the quality of Vista. I’m sure that Microsoft is working hard to fix the bugs and idiosyncrasies in Vista as we speak. The threat to Vista and Microsoft isn’t OSX and Apple, it’s Open Source and Linux. As for the 10%-90% argument, the percentage of computers that can run Windows is actually growing as Apples market penetration increases, because all new Macs can run Windows products, so much so that PC Magazine found that the best laptop for running Vista is a Mac Book Pro. I like and use Macs. I use some Microsoft programs and deeply admire and respect Bill Gates. I find the Apple and Microsoft fan boys tiring. Computers are designed to make our work and lives easier. Most people see it that way, and chose a system they can afford, or that they use at work or school, or that a friend uses. That’s it, no emotional investment, no baggage from years ago, no obsessing over minutia that almost no one else notices. Vista isn’t getting as wide acceptance as expected because it had problems at release and got a bad rep because of it. They’ve fixed the problems no they have to rebuild the rep.
