I'm ready to move up from my 5MP Minolta Dimage P&S, so I just ordered this camera (hasn't arrived yet) after doing extensive research into the class. The leading competition, Canon and Nikon, had issues that I couldn't get around. I found only minor issues reported for the Samsung. It is manufactured by Pentax and branded Samsung, so all Pentax lenses will work with it, a strong selling feature to me. The features and reported image quality were the deciding factors. It is a little more expensive than it's competition, but I'm hoping the extra expense is well worth it. I'll post a follow up after I actually get the camera in my hands.

I have the GX 10 and I am impressed. Looks like it will come to an end and it is impossible to get the battery grip in the USA All other accessories are interchangable with Pentax.

A nice article. Though Samsung GX10 is a twin brother of Pentax K10D, I think the outer finish and menu of the Samsung are superior to those of the Pentax. Since they are exactly same mechanically and optically -- one exception is the battery grip due to the design decision of Samsung for a slightly different battery area -- I have chosen to go with the Samsung. And, I am darn happy with it.

fair enough. as I said, I'm not an uber-buff yet, so if the pentax is rocking the house then that's great.

Beautiful camera. I picked up the GX1S from buy.com for $330. Sadly they canceled my order and I've been fighting them for a month now. I've played around with it in stores but I can't find it any where for a decent price. I'd love the GX10 but its about $500 out of my price range. I wish Samsung would continue manufacturing their bargain DSLR camera. :D

Thanks for the article, but a couple of things:

1. The tab on the rear of the lens is actually quite durable, and would require either a serious misalignment during mounting, or a hefty amount of forced pressure to bend or break. It may look fragile to the eye but I don't think it presents any notable issues, even to a professional photographer.

2. As John mentioned, there is no mention of the camera's fraternal twin, the Pentax K10D. There are actually a plethora of lenses available for this camera, ranging from Pentax K-mount to the Universal/M42 screw-mount lenses, using a $20 adapter.

Nice article, but there was no mention of the Pentax K10D. The article reads like Samsung designed the camera. Otherwise, I enjoyed and appreciated the article.
Cheers,
John
