Well Scott, some apps are just java based, that is the way they work, so it sucks!

The more I think about it, there's really no way they can prevent me from running whatever apps I want. I think all they can do is cripple the firmware on the phones they sell so that it can only run allowed apps (which they already do). Fortunately I only import phones, so I really don't think they can do anything about it.

With the growing number of web-based mobile apps out there, like Tappity (www.tappity.com) and Netvibes2Go (m.netvibes.com), it’s not going to matter that T-Mobile won’t let you install these 3rd party apps. You’ll be able to access them via any phone, even when you switch providers.

This is why I love not being in a contract. If they actually do prevent my apps from working, I can just switch to AT&T right away.

Great. Thanks T-Mobile. First Apple says no iPhone apps via open development. Now you guys say no apps allowed on phone. No wonder the US is behind in terms of novel cell phone applications. Too bad so many people out there are stifling innovation for the sake of controlling their business.

And just when T-mobile was getting interesting. I can't wait for an new company to come on to the scene with an open policy for how their customers use their networks and phones, who isn't focused on sqeezing every drop out of their customers.

Shouldn't a policy change of this magnitude be enough to give you reason to void the contract?
