USBCell Rechargeable Batteries Hands-On

A pack of two NiMH AA cells will cost you $19.50. The positive end of the battery flips back to reveal a USB connector. Plug the batteries into any USB port on your computer or into a powered hub and voila, five hours later you’ve got freshly charged batteries.

When charging, the rim of the battery maintains a constant green glow. At 90 percent it begins to flash and it finally turns off when fully charged. Pretty sweet.

The company plans to roll out AAA, C, D and 9-volt cells in the near future. It also has cellphone batteries in the works. We can’t wait.

very interested to hear how long they last in the xbox controllers - almost bought them for that reason a while ago but was turned off by the cost

Two things:

1) That is 65% more expensive then the rechargeable pack that they have been selling for ages for the XBox…

&

B) Try plugging that into the USB port on the front of the XBox without taking off the front panel.

Actually they fit into the front of an Xbox 360 quite nicely.

That is sweet, I’m going to have to pick some of these up. James, keep in mind that you can use these for more than just the xbox, and they virtually eliminate the need for a separate battery charger.

I was just busting on Peter and his using Alkaline batteries for his XBox controller… also surprised that they fit in the XBox
