Media Demagnetizer for the Rich

In the odd world of high-end audio, everything is a factor. Take this little device, for example. It’s a media demagnetizer that allows you to demagnetize everything from your vinyl to your prized CDs. Why, you ask? I suppose it reduces crackle and prevents your Florgo 5000 $20,000 CD player from blowing up.
How much does it cost to demagnetize your media? $2,900. A bit much, it seems, for something you can do with for $7.74.

Looks to me more like a groovy lazy susan coffee table. Where is the ubiquitous iPod dock?
Yet another useless gizmo for people with more money than brains…

This just falls in the same category as “unidirectional wire” for speakers, and special wooden knobs for amplifiers. It’s crap sold to gullible hi-fi nuts.
CDs are coated with aluminium. Aluminium isn’t ferromagnetic.
Records are vinyl. Vinyl is even less likely to hold a magnetic charge than aluminium.

and of course everything in the hi-fi world needs spike shaped legs to be taken seriously. to me that’s always been shorthand for ‘worthless crap for idiots with cash.’
