Ahh….this was announced over 6 months ago.

It’s part of the Toshiba/Samsung agreement. It does not mean Samsung will be supporting HD DVD with a standalone player. They announced just as recently as CES 2007 in January that they are firmly committed to only supporting Blu-ray.
