Vulcan FlipStart In The Wild

James Kendrick from jkOnTheRun gives a thorough review of the soon to be launched FlipStart. The unit James had was equipped with a Pentium M 1.1 GHz processor with 512 MB of RAM, a 30 GB hard drive, Windows XP SP2, integrated EV-DO, and a web cam.

The FlipStart, for those not in the know, is essentially a mini PC that costs $2,000 and will be launched next month. The FlipStart is definitely not a mainstream consumer product and I highly doubt business folk will opt for this either. Paul Allen is the most notable backer, hopefully this venture works out better than my hometown Portland Jailblazers, but I highly doubt it.

  • JK,

Your reports will be more visually informative if you make sure that the lighting of you (and the Flipstart) are lit from the FRONT so that we can see the keys, details, etc. as they are reflected back into the camera lens. Instead, you have done the EXACT OPPOSITE which means you are backlit by the desk lamp behind you. This unfotunately made all your close-ups very dark and we couldn’t see what you were trying to show us very well.
