Deep Computed BCI: A Short Story
Imagine your motor cortex fully activated while you have full muscle tone but both what your cortex says you are experiencing and what you are actually experiencing are not what you body is actually doing. You were trained to do this on a brain computer interface. Highly Skilled lucid dreamers in intense sessions and brain tomography on the level of seismic tomography make this all possible. Accessing the brain thru non-invasive means is vital in Berlin where Brain Computer Interfacers and the Locked-in are moving things with only their minds; however, one might say that all this research is treading water awaiting advances in Neuro-surgery. I’m pitching the thoroughly developed non-invasive technique as a necessary prelude to the invasive interface. I’m just looking for sympathetic places to post the story I’m telling in the form of a fictitious photo journal.

don't worry, it's happening already. binary decisions are relatively very simple now. one locked-in patient can even web surf now.

the last bit trying to connect schizophrenia in mice to emotiv's products sounds very contrived. the technology behind this product very realistically seems much more like just simple EEG based BCI...

I was so excited when I came across the Feb 10th article by Barbara Ortutay on Yahoo. Games, shames, the medical possibilities floored me. Have you ever watched a loved one lying on a hospital bed unable to even blink an eye. The agony of not knowing if his or her brain is working , feeling pain, conscious of what is happening but unable to communicatewith anyone? Couldn't this be used to know is suffering, or truly brain dead. Who cares about games. Of couse, that is where the money is , at least at first. Can we hpe that something truoy helpful to mankind came come out ofthis eventually? My only hope on this is that thecompany is working with IBM.

I saw a demo of this at the Game Connect Conference in Melbourne Australia a couple of days ago - looked very cool. They were cagey on what games it would work with but said several developers were working on stuff for launch. They also said that it would cost less than a PS3. It's being developed for PC and the 360 and PS3, Wii owners will miss out because there is no HDD and it would mean doing a whole lot of redesigning. They said that you would, for example, be able to think fire to fling a fireball. You do need to do some training with the device although that was said to be very quick. The version we saw was the early demo and they advised that quite a lot of work had gone into it over the last year and that it was a much different beast now.
