How To Be a Fanboy

As we all know, fanboys are a breed apart, a group of rabid, half-human chimeras that will violently defend their opinions to the death, usually in broken English. To that end, Lore Sjöberg at Wired wrote a guide to being — and fighting off — fanboys. His advice is priceless and very applicable.

So how can you bear the proud mantle of fanboy? The first step is to pick a video game system to give your undying allegiance. Most fanboys ally themselves with one of the latest generation of consoles, but a few diehards are still rooting for the Dreamcast.

I’m still rocking the WonderSwan, friends, and everything else sucks.

  • Surely the Vince troll is CrunchGear’s resident expert on how to be a fanboy?

  • Dreamcast …. rox!!!

  • A good read. But on the topic of “fanboy”, I found ironic that the definition was given boundaries of video game consoles. Honestly, I see fanboy comments on occasion for the different consoles but most hardcore gamers are likely using multiple systems and therefore don’t carry such a strong bias on one platform or the other.

However, the area that I see by far the most frequent posts are Apple vs. MS (especially on Digg and the gadget blogs).

And of course, who could forget Chevy vs. Ford (although those fanboys may have merged under the mafiosos of each clan to protect themselves from the Japanese). Hell, they even came up with the “Bad Boy” of fanboys!
