Never heard of Leica!?! You must be under 35 years of age and/or you don't have a grandfather that spent any time traveling in Europe. Leica in Germany is one of the most well known camera and lens makers from the pre-digital era. Unfortunately they are dying a slow death nowadays with the switch to digital. Leica formed an alliance with Panasonic some years back and licenses their name for use on modern digital lenses in return for Panasonic OEM'ing their digital cameras. If you see a Leica brand digital camera like the C-LUX 2 then check Panasonic's Lumix line for the exact same camera in a silver colored body for hundreds of dollars less. You'll notice all the Lumix cameras feature a Leica lens, at least in name, it's not the quality of Leica lenses made for Leica's new M8 digital camera. This is in the same vane as Sony digital cameras with Carl Zeiss lenses, another famous lens maker from the pre-digital era.
