Searching around on the Web, I’ve found a lot of sites that will charge you between $25 and $35 to unlock your Samsung i607 Blackjack. However, I came across a post describing how to get your phone unlocked for free via Cingular. I decided to try it, since I’m legitimately headed to Europe this summer and need to unlock my phone.
I couldn’t find much on the Web about it, so I thought I’d write up a comprehensive post about my experience unlocking the phone.
I called Cingular’s International Care Center at (916) 843-4685 Tuesday morning and spoke with a customer service representative, who confirmed that I could unlock all my Cingular phones for international travel. To unlock my Blackjack, I read him my International Mobile Equipment Identity, or IMEI, number, which can be found on the product box or by entering the code *#06# on the Blackjack’s keypad.
After I read him the IMEI, he processed it through the computer and gave me an unlock code specific to my phone. He then instructed me to power down my phone, take out the Subscriber Identification Module, or SIM, card and power it back up. Once the phone rebooted, I entered in the code #7465625*638*, which brought up the prompt: Enter Network Control Key. I put in my unlock code, and the phone returned the message: Successfully Disable Locking Status.
I haven’t tested the phone with a SIM card from a different network, so I’m not sure if this actually worked. However, the screen prompts looked promising.
Afterward, I tried to unlock my old Motorola v551, however, the representative told me that I could not do it over the phone and had to wait seven to 10 business days for an e-mail with an unlock code and instructions. I went ahead and submitted a request.
The reason why all this is possible probably is because of the Library of Congress and the Register of Copyright, which made phone unlocking legal in November 2006. The governing bodies announced six exemptions to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the fifth of which was:
5. Computer programs in the form of firmware that enable wireless telephone handsets to connect to a wireless telephone communication network, when circumvention is accomplished for the sole purpose of lawfully connecting to a wireless telephone communication network.
The exemptions, according to the government, must be argued for every three years, so the legality of phone unlocking could go away in 2010. For now, I’m just glad I’ll have a phone when I travel this summer. Some good stories about these exemptions have appeared in Ars Technica, The Register and Wired News.

I thank you so much for this information. My friend had given me a blackjack and I was with T-mobile… I searched for unlock codes and came across this and I now have a working blackjack for my t-mobile service!
However, AT&T did give us a rather hard time for getting the unlock code, but after calling about 3 times, I was going to have the code sent to me, but didn’t want to wait, so I called back… I got the code right away and it was unlocked within minutes of my last phone call. Thank you!
Hi
I just got off the phone with Cingular’s International Customer Care Center.
I asked to unlock my Samsung SGH-D807. There was no problem at all, they just asked a few basic questions like what is the IMEI number and how the phone was branded(with the cingular logo) and other easy to answer questions. I was lucky enough to receive my unblocking code immediately. Fortunately I had my south African SIM with me to test it, and it worked!!
Thanks again Wayne Ma for the very usefull info.
Hope everybody else gets it done as easy as I did.
Hi,
I have a blackjack and had it unlocked.. with Cingular tech support. I travel alot, but can’t get any networks here in Australia. I bought a Vodaphone pay as you go.
I have done this with many phones while traveling, but I can’t figure out what’s wrong here.
Any ideas.
thanks
hi i received my cingular unlocked code and put in my t-mobile card and my phone stated ” NO SIM” i attempted to place a call and the phone said ” operation failed” and then took me to the SIM FAILURE screen were it said ” invalid or missing SIM card.” how can i get my phone to work with t-mobile?

Mark
That is great of you to post this! It worked like a champ!!!
Thanks again,

I would like to get my SunCom phones unlocked for use with Cingular. I have 2 Sony Ericsson w580i, 2 Sony Ericsson w300i, and 1 HTC S260. SunCom tells me that they do not have unlock codes and Cingular tells me to contact SunCom for the codes. Any help?
hey i need the unlock code for blackjack i607 from att cingular do i need to call them or is there another way to get it?
Fantastic!@ We just called cingular at the number posted above. We have two sony ericsson w300i model phones. We had already cancelled service due to our move overseas. They gave us the unlock codes and were extremely friendly. A few minutes later, we put our SFR gsm sim cards in the phones, hit a series of keys that they will tell you about, and voila – unlocked phones! Thanks so much for this post. Cheers, Robert
Called today. I got lots of warnings about the risks of permanently locking up the phone should I incorrectly enter 5 times the provided code. And about not supporting this phone if another SIM is in. And about that it may not work everywhere anymore. And a few are you sure, are you really really sure, etc.
So a bit of “bullying”, but otherwise courteous and professional.
AT&T said that they must ask the “manufacturer” for the code, and that takes 5-7 days to receive the email with the code.
The phone number in the listing is the right place to get your Blackjack unlocked free of charge. Thank you for the article.
To unlock singular phone the steps are as follows:
Key in #06#
It displays IME # (make note of it)
Call Cingular support 1-800-331-0500
Give him IME #
He will give you unlock code
Remove SIM from phone
Reboot the phone
Key in code #7465625*638*
It asks to key in unlock key
Keyin the unlock code
Your phone gets unlocked
When do you put the SIM back in?
thanks!

I have T-mobile for a service provider. My phone broke, and my friend gave me his Cingular v3 razr. Is there a way i can call cingular and get it unlocked even though i dont have them as a service provider? Or should i just get him to call cingular and unlock the phone beings he has an account from him. That should work right?
I want to unlock a blackjack without calling cingular, (<90 days), can someone provide me the code?
can someone send me a code for the blackjack2?
Thx
Hello Wayne,
Thanks a lot for the info. on International Customer care #. I have Motorola RAZR with service from AT&T. I had called them on the cust. care # initially to get my phone unlocked. BUt they told me that 90 day term is no longer valid to unlock phones and I’ve to complete the 2 yr contract period for the get the subsidy code. I gave up hope and thought of unlocking it when I’m in India. They do it for about $3 in India. But I came across this webpage and gave a try on the # that you had listed. I called them and the CS was kind enough that she immediately registered a case and said I would get a response within 7 business days. To my surprise I received an email (on a Sunday!!!) with the unlock code. I had a Hutch SIM card and supplied the unlock code and VOILA..Now I’ve my cell phone unlocked and can use it on any network. Thanks a lot for sharing this information.

Is it true that if you unlock a blackjack ii that you will not be able to use the internet on it?
My husband gave me his Blackjack. I have TMobile Service so I wanted to unlock the phone – he has AT&T. I looked all over the internet for unlock options. I did not want to pay to do this. I came across this website and found great info. I just went to the AT&T website, got their 800#, and called them. I told them that I was given a phone, and wanted to unlock it. A very nice girl named Emily assisted me. She asked for the IMEI # then put me on hold for about 30 sec. She came back, gave me my unlock # then proceeded to walk me thru unlocking the phone. I was on/off the phone within 5 min. My Blackjack is now my working TMobile phone. It was so very easy!!!
Good luck to all who try this…don’t hesitate to call the company who is currently running your phone to get that unlock code.
if ur fone has been cut off can u still unlock it?
Thanks RS for the suggestion.
I got a phone from someone. The phone was locked to Cingular/ATT. I have a Tmobile account. I just called
1-800-331-0500. The prompt asks you to enter current ATT mobile number. I just entered my Tmobile number. Then choose to go to Customer service by pressing 0. A very nice lady picked up the phone. Here is how the conversation went:
Me: “Hi There, I got a phone from a friend of mine. I don’t have a ATT account. But I want to unlock the phone so I can use it with my mobile carrier”
CSR: “Are they (your friend) not going to use this phone anymore?”
Me: “Yes they bought another phone and don’t want this one”
CSR: “OK. give me your IMEI number” [She gave instructions to get the number]
Me: Gave her the IMEI number.
CSR: Gave me the Unlock code to unlock the device.
The entire call took 2 mins. I put in my Tmobile sim and turned on the Phone. It asked for Unlock code. Entered it and viola the phone works with TMobile now.
Thx tram for the valuable imput. I also have a tmobile account and called att today and voila!! Thx again!
I just tried exactly what you suggested and Cingular/ATT customer service told me they do not do this.
thanks for the post.
My friend gave me the blackjack 2 so I need to unlock for use with T-Mobile sim card pls. help me I need the code to unlock.
e-mail paul_5555@msn.com
i got a blckjack and i need a code to unlock it so my card works can sum1 please msg me with it
I know this is a very old thread but niice i just got my blackjack unlocked took like 5 mins and a call to customer support
I called the At&t international support @1-916-843-4685 said I was going out of the country, gave them the IMEI# and they gavve me codes for both my phones. Took about 5 min
Called few minutes back from with in US. They transfered me to regular. The girl on phone took 5-7 minutes to give me the unlock code, But in order to get his you should either be out of thewir regular contract or you tell them that you are travelling abroad else they are under no obligation to give you the unlock code.
You’re a hero for posting this! Just spoke to Cingular and they are emailing the unlock code in five to seven business days. I bought my phone in the US and live in England, which I told them – no other questions asked. Can’t use AT&T here anyway so no loss to them!

Worked like a charm….
WATCH OUT – if U try to unlock Blackjack 5x your phone will be frozen so your phone will not ever be unlockable! I called Cingular ATT and the first person “helped me” for like an hour! We tried 3 times, unsuccessfully. Note: with this unlock process, you type stuff in with no characters showing up on the display.
I plugged in a t-mobile sim to see if it was shipped unlocked- and a simple menu came up!
NOTE THE EASIER WAY:
1. Put in a t-mobile sim card. A prompt asks for the unlock code with a text box
2. type in the 8 digit unlock code
3. Hit the key under “OK” on the screen
4. The phone will tell you it is unlocked
5. Make a call- it will say t-mobile. :)
4th time’s a charm. :)
For the record I like ATT/Cingular and are happy they helped me out… even though they don’t have windows mobile 6 upgrade yet :(
