Sony And Immersion Finish Legal Battle
by Vince Veneziani on March 19, 2007

Remember a few years ago Sony got into some deep trouble with a company called Immersion over the rumble technology in the PS2’s controllers? Well after a long, long battle, the two companies have finally settled their differences. Immersion and Sony are now working together to incorporate Immersion’s vibration technology inside future Sony products, most likely including the PS3 and/or PSP. Says Victor Viegas, CEO of Immersion:

“We are pleased to have put this litigation behind us. Our new business agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment is specifically intended to enable advanced vibration capability for the benefit of the PlayStation gaming community. We are happy to provide our technology in this regard and hope to make technical proposals very soon with respect to use of our technology in the PlayStation products”

Yay for everyone working out a disagreement/patent dispute! Perhaps when the next versions of the PSP and PS3 come out, we’ll see us some rumble action!

  • Woot, now all those Sony haters will have 1 less thing to complain about the PS3.

It is nice to see companies not killing each other but rather realizing the importance of both products, and how to merge and make gadgets, software, etc better and more exciting for us nerds..I mean consumers.
