Real Life Magazine Confirms Black Xbox 360’s Existence, Here in Late April

So the black Xbox 360 rumor is as old as the day is long, but now it looks like an actual, reputable publication (with sources and everything!) has confirmed its existence. April’s Game Informer says that we can expect a black Xbox 360 with a 120GB hard drive and built-in HDMI out in late April for $479. So that means, compared to the current premium edition, you’ll be paying $80 for 100 more gigabytes, a higher end video connection and a new coat of paint. That’s not a bad deal at all, but the omission of a built-in HD DVD drive is curious. (Apparently, HD DVD isn’t “proven” enough to warrant its inclusion.) Score one for the Blu-ray capable PS3?

I think one of the key factors here is that the price of the PS3 is probably the biggest reason the PS3 isn’t doing as well as expected. being that it is so expensive, all the other small launch snigglets like lack of games etc are amplified.
Adding a HDDVD drive would take away that advantage of the 360 as it would probably put the price right up there with the PS3.

David got it right, just wanted to say the same.. given that the HDDVD drive sells for $199, it would drive up the price of the Xbox to $679, or even if they apply some discount somewhere between $550 and $600, which puts it too close to PS3 price regions.
But Nicholas is right as well, I think HDDVD really hasn’t taken off enough to justify inclusion, plus does anyone know if you can actually play regular games from the add-on HDDVD drive right now? There might actually be a technological hurdle, considering that the currently used DVD drives have a special firmware and keys etc. to not allow “backups” to be played, so you would have to put the same stuff into the HDDVD drive, which would probably drive the price up even more. (And yes I know that there are firmware hacks for the DVD drives to make them like backups…)

I think David and Sascha both dropped the ball here and are only pandering to this blatant pandering. You know it is a well-known fact that Nicholas Deleon is not only a communist sympathizer but in the pocket of the Microsoft Corporation and it is equally well-known that Bill Gates is a templar of the Illuminati. I wish Mr. Biggs would wise-up to the pinko-shadow-government rats in his midst.
