A good tip is to go through security to the departure lounge immediately after checking in. It's very easy to waste time by moseying around shopping, or having something to eat, thinking there's no rush. But, you reach security, and blam, the queue's a mile long.

"Get e-tickets and check in online."

Do they even have regular tickets anymore?

"Travel light and pack effectively."

That's tough advice for a girl, you know. And I'm the type of girl who travels light. :P

And don't forget to take you Swiss army knife off your keys before you fly. And check your shoulder bag for stuff that you need around town but can't fly with. I got busted for having a set of hex keys that I kept on hand for when I rode my bike into work... hex keys? Who is going to take over a place with a 2mm hey key?

Better yet, have a whole separate bag if you fly regularly. The you won't forget stuff in it like I tend to do.

One of the best tips I can give is to be patient. The airline screeners, while often a pain, are just doing their jobs. In many cases, they are just as frustrated with the new and changing rules as the passengers are. A smile and a patient attitude go along way.

Other tips: Bring an empty water bottle. Don't try to cheat and bring a full one, bring an empty one. There are water fountains and most of the restaurants will give you water if you ask nicely.

If you've got a window seat, please please please try to minimize your trips to the bathroom. If you have a small bladder, book an aisle seat. Or at the very least, politely inform your seatmates that you tried to get an aisle seat and couldn't. They might just switch with you.
