I was lucky to get my hands on the Samsung UpStage this evening and saw a mobile music phone with enough of a draw to warrant even, maybe, potentially, downloading from a mobile music store. Clearly the real draw here is the idea that you can literally turn the phone into a dedicated music player instead of relying on a half-assed piece of music playing software.
In the flesh, the phone is quite cute. What’s not cute, however, is the 64MB card that Sprint has included with the diminutive phone. It’s $149 with a two-year agreement, comes with a battery wallet — both batteries show up on the phone face, so you can keep track of both the on-board battery and in the wallet — and lasts for about 16 hours of music playback and 6 hours of talk-time.

NOT TRUE. the phone is now available and i even called them and they say it will ship with a 64MB card. even skatter tech – http://skattertech.com/2007/04/samsung-upstage-m620-sprint/ – says it comes with 64 mb card (its towards the bottom)
but i do think they should throw in a 1gb or 2gb card for free. it currently costs consumers about $10 for a 1gb so if sprint/samsung buys it for us it will only cost them about $4-5.
The upstage is AWESOME with the high-tech features and all of the amazing details to it! I love the fact that it flips!

One thing that I dont like about these phones is you cant do anything to it besides use it. I cant install java games unless its downloaded from sprint. I cant change the external speaker volume. I cant download the pics that i’ve taken to a computer unless its emailed. I guess pretty much all samsung phones are like this. NVMD… I just go back to my slvr and ebay a red housing for it.
you can download the pics directly to you computer. all you have to do is open the device like a regular drive because the computer sees the phone as an external hard drive. simply click on the folder holding the pics and they can be copied directly to your computer

i have one its ok, but very expensive, you grt charged for connecting to your pc(thats right when you plug the usb in they charge). Really i think this is a good phone but if you dont buy songs from sprint it dosent hold much. some times it has a problem loading songs. you hav to flip it all the time to do simple things that cloud and should be done from one side.both sies cant do every thing the phone offers. i cnt really say im impressed but i ant say im disapointed either. one thing i will say if i knew the this phone was going to be this big a hassle i would have bought out of my contract with sprint(the best nickel and dimers in the industry) and got an iphone.
oh yeah the games are also the worst sprint has 2 offer.

I dont like how sensitive it is, but it has a option to make it more or less…like that about it. Its small, sleek, and even has my bf impressed (saying allot). All and all, a great phone! Music lovers, get this thing NOW! It has a good speaker on it, and love it to pieces!!! NOTE – THE BATTERY WALLET, ITS GREAT! :)

Yes you can download music from your computer to your phone. All you have to do is install the software that comes with it and hook it up to your computer using the USB cord that also comes with it.
Whoever said that Sprint charges you to hook your phone up to your computer is wrong. It only costs you if you buy music from Sprint.
I’ve had this phone since the beginning of July and I love it.
For all of you complaining about only getting a 64mb card, go out and spend the extra money and buy a 1gb card like I did. Right now I only have about 100 songs on my phone and I’m not even using half of the memory.

Do you have to use theinternet for the music player? My parents won’t get me the data pack and I don’t what it if i can’t just use it as a basic mediaplayer/phone.
No you do not have to use the internet for the music player. IF you already have a source for MP3s, you can put them on the memory card and then stick them in the phone. Works great.
