Microsoft Tries To Justify 120GB Xbox 360 Hard Drive’s $180 Price
- April 5th, 2007

The 120GB hard drive for the Xbox 360, purchased as a separate accessory, will cost $179.99 when it comes out later this month. I repeat, $180 for a 120GB hard drive. Isn’t that a bit much? Lots of folks on the Internets thought so, too, forcing Microsoft to respond to allegations of overcharging.
Microsoft said that comparisons to regular, off the shelf hard drives (where you can get 500GB for as little as $155) are improper since installing those hard drives isn’t a “plug and play experience.” Moreover, Microsoft said that its hard drive is priced at about the same level as self-powered, external hard drives. OK, whatever you say Microsoft. Just don’t be surprised when no one buys your wildly overpriced “Elite” console, despite the fact that you gimped it.

I’m not sure if this article has more to do with the actual HDD or the fact that the author is obviously angry at MS for other reasons. A lot of personal attacks and other issues are brought up, and trying to get everyone not buy MS stuff out of your own personal protest?
The HDD might be a little pricey but then again when is first party stuff (MS, Sony, Etc.) not expensive. MS has a huge 360 consumer base and knows their bigger HDD will sell well. Even if it is a little pricey, remember they are taking a rather hard loss on each console sold. Overall, a bit pricey but definetly worth it for game downloads, HD movies, etc.

Isn’t Microsoft taking the smallest loss per console? Sony taking the most. And the wii actually making profit, or small loss as well?
yeah

Sony is taking the biggest loss, but not for their consoles, but for their huge invest ment in their crappy blue ray technology. Microsoft and maybe Nintindo arnt nearly as stupid, because who will use Disks on the next gen Console anyway- everythign will be downloaded. Consoles are pretty pathetic anyway, i’ve been above “high def” with my computer for a long while now… consoles may be a cost effective solution for gaming, but soon many will seek a full entertaimnet solution, Windows Vista :)

Are you serious. you aren’t upset about the $180 price tag. you realize that thats American currency right. in America it is $100 for the 20gb. you’re gonna tell me you aren’t gonna be mad that for the same technology just large size we have to pay an extra $80. I’m an xbox fan but screw that M$ its just a ploy to get money and rip off everyone who was faithful enough to invest in your product when it only had a 20gb

How can you be made about the price of a hard drive that is going to increase your storage space by nine fold and you only have to pay 175% more than your 20 gb hard drive? that doesn’t make much since to me really. the one thing you should really be complaining about is that fact that the hd dvd player is seperate and costs 200 dollars, american currency for you angry man. yea wii is making profit but for the next gen gamer, the wii should not even be appealing, the graphics are comparable to N64. the ps3 is a joke even with the new HOME online community coming out, paying 700 dollars for a system that can’t do half of what a PC can do is a joke. now back to the 120gb hard drive. the hard drive will make it possible to contain more information without having to delete anything or store any information on a secondary drive, pc or other hard drive. and with the transfer equipment included it makes it even easier to transfer from hard drive to hard drive, just like memory card. so if your going to complain and whine THEN DON’T BUY IT!!!! it’s your choice, this is america.
on the windows vista statement, a full entertainment solution? do you own a 360? you can download everything, tv, movies, videos, and link to your computer to use all the capabilities of windows media center, hmmmm maybe there is your full entertainment solution.
also like mike said, nothing comming straight from first party retailers if ever going to be cheap, just wait 6 months to a year and prices should plummit, or you could just save 20 bucks a week and buy the damn thing, hell its not even out yet lol
